SUMMARY
Supplied new by Esplanade Mercedes of Newport I. W on 24th March 1993, this was one of the last 190D's to be registered, and was serviced by that same supplying dealer right up to 2004. Each successive owner has clearly looked after this car which is demonstrated throughout its extensive service history; it's one of those cars that has been carefully and correctly looked after all its life, and has thankfully never had an aftermarket alarm fitted either.
This is rare find these days; these stoic and incredibly economical W201 Diesels are rarely found with automatic transmission, especially having a decent level of specification and with a full documented service history too! If you know these cars, most W201 190D's came with manual transmission and with quite a Spartan level of specification. Now, twenty odd years on, many of these cars have been abused by succession of neglectful owners; I've always said if you see a rough W201 190 you know its had an incredibly hard life as these cars can really take some "stick", without showing it!. Not this one, you'll be glad to know, its one of those cars that's had a very charmed life, and its all there in back and white to prove it.
This is a car I sold for a shade under £5K back in March 2012, when it had covered 106, 000 miles. Back then it had a full and detailed service history which at that point in time contained an impressive 26 entries in the service book, the vast majority of them being from Mercedes main dealers. It also came with a large file of accompanying invoices for work done over the years. Now five years, that same service history has grown even bigger and the service book now contains a whacking 35 entries!, with the extra stamps all from a well respected MB specialist. That A4 lever arch service history file has also grown quite a bit fatter too, and contains around another £5K worth of invoices, so you can quite clearly see the last owner really did look after this car, during his five year and 35, 000 mile tenure.
Finally please note I'm selling this car on an "as is" basis, simply because of the mileage and the fact that I have so much on at the moment, however it drives ever bit as well as a car that's done a fraction of it's 140K miles, it's highly presentable and mechanically superb.
I have however inspected it, and have completed a few jobs, to ensure there’s no surprises for the new owner and to fix any issues. Fortunately, I hold a good stock of spares for these cars, so I had many of the below on the shelf.
The jobs were as follows:
* ABS ECU replaced (old one was faulty)
* Ignition lock removed, cleaned, properly lubricated (with graphite lubricant) and refitted.
* Heater Matrix inlet pipe O ring replaced – I found evidence of a coolant leak in the passenger footwell. This was down to a rubber O-ring on the coolant inlet, hardening over time, and failing to seal (common fault on W201’s). I replaced it with the correct genuine MB O-ring, and all is water tight again. Obviously I cleaned the carpet too, which has come up like new!.
* Electric aerial replaced – the old one has just given up the ghost!.
* Centre dash vent replaced – old one had broken.
* Passenger door mirror glass replaced (old one was cracked.
* Sun visor clips replaced – again these were broken (common on the W201).
* My dent man is also going around the car next week to fix any parking dings.
At the end of the day, its widely accepted that these cars can cover extremely large mileages without issue, so this is going to be a real bargain for someone, and I’m sure, as it has been for the previous owner, will be a pleasant and rewarding car to own.
THE MTSV DIFFERENCE
Unlike some, I don’t just simply go out, buy any old car, give it a good clean, then advertise it for more than the purchase price, disregarding any issues the car may have in the hope the new buyer won’t notice…I just couldn’t do that. The cars I source are carefully selected and I work very hard so that when my cars leave me, I have the satisfaction of knowing they are as good as they possibly can be within the constraints I have. As such I have many repeat customers and new customers that have been recommended via word of mouth…the ultimate accolade for anyone in business. To read more, see my website at - details above
