Description
Change in circumstances and too many projects means I can't dedicate the full time and resources that this car deserves, so offering for sale to someone who will hopefully restore.
I have had the car for around 3 years and one year into my ownership there was an engine knock on starting (goes away once fired and oil pressure hits) and the car has been off the road since. I believe this will be an engine bearing which has broken down with use after its life of being sat most of the time, and I've seen this happen before as an ex engine builder. Not wanting to further damage any of the original Alpina parts like the block it has not been started since. Previous to my ownership it was in the hands of someone else for a few months and before that, the 3rd main owner had the car from 2-3 years old and ~45000 miles, putting 500-2000 miles a year on it for over 20 years.
The history with the car is immense and the major interest point here. A full folder of every mot, part fitted and previous owners. The first MOT (and every one since) is present, showing the second owner changing the registration back from a cherished number of an obviously wealthy 2nd owner and the 45000 mileage. I think you can trace the source of almost every nut and bolt on the car with the parts history included, the third owner was absolutely meticulous with documenting everything. There is even a photocopy of the original V5 so the names and locations of all 4 previous owners are traceable, even the brochures, information and magazine clippings from the 3rd owners acquisition of the car are there!
The car is almost completely standard bar magnecore leads fitted by myself and a stainless exhaust to replace the rusted Alpina system by the previous owner. This replacement wasn't undertaken lightly and I have photos of the state of the original system, along with a BMW quote for the Alpina system and the original receipt for the stainless exhaust.
Car comes on scrap tyres and standard e34 wheels, the Alpina originals are present and have been dry stored in good condition but with some paint flaking around bolt holes etc, I think they have been refurbished poorly. Also have an original Alpina spoiler and facelift/ msport sideskirts to go with the car.
The car is in need of restoration, body work is solid for its age but paintwork has crazed with age and requires attention, or tidying up and polishing to display the original. Some areas of the arches, boot and roof require some derusting and treatment. Having been sat it needs a thorough clean, particularly inside which has picked up a bit of mould. Usual repair work for a car of this age that's been sat, I. E brakes, bushes etc will most likely need attention. The Alpina splitter was unfortunately damaged but both parts are present for repair.
Really wish I could keep it and restore to enjoy but unfortunately with other projects on the go one has to go. Hopefully anyone looking at this understands what an investment this would be with prices of classic BMW skyrocketing. Price is firm as for any less I will keep and restore.
