The 997 is the most commercially successful Porsche 911 of all time. It has been argued that this is the last of the real Porsches, referring to the 997 series as the factory’s swansong whilst under independent ownership.
The styling of the 997 was based on the much favoured 993 generation’s appearance with the much-loved oval-shaped headlights returning to the front of this iconic car. The interior was re-designed with new controls, more reminiscent of the classic 911 interiors. The body shape remained low profile, with a drag coefficient of just 0. 29 for the Carrera. The ‘S’ model offered, additional power from its larger 3. 8 engine, better standard equipment, and handled better thanks to its sports suspension.
The model was revised in 2008, with the Generation II, and gained a new direct fuel injection 3, 800cc engine which produced 385 HP, a revised suspension, revised styling, new HID projector headlamps, touch-screen navigation and Bluetooth telephony. It can travel from 0 to 60 mph in 4. 5 seconds, and reach a top speed of 186mph.
