Descrição

Hawker Siddeley, a pivotal component to Britain's war effort, launched its first post war car on the 8th May 1945. It was inevitably called the Armstrong Siddeley Hurricane. Some 2200 vehicles were produced up to 1954, most of which were exported. They were built to aircraft standards of quality, and were perhaps over engineered by comparison with mass produced equivalents. After heavy losses, Armstrong withdrew from car making completely in 1960. The car allows closed, open or coupe de ville motoring, is very drive-able and roomy four seater, but gives a remarkable post war feel. The Sphinx bonnet emblem emphasised that the engine was 'As silent as the Sphinx'.

This particular car was sold in 1946 before being bought as a rolling project by Paul Harmer in 1977. He instigated a complete refurbishment using a series of specialists for 3000 hours of work. The Walnut dashboard and cappings alone took 110 hours. Bills totaling £66, 000 are available over a 20 year period. The car was finally finished in 2003 when Mr. Harmer went on a rally around Jordan with the King. It performed admirably but was little used in later years. It was purchased by the current owner in 2015, who has spent £6000 with SLJ and a Siddeley specialist to return the car to first class running condition. It must be one the best examples of the car out there, and is purely being sold due to storage pressure.
