Description
Ford Capri 2000GT – 5 Speed Gearbox/ PAS
The Capri was unveiled in January 1969 at the Brussels Motor Show, with sales starting the following month. The intention was to reproduce in Europe the success Ford had had with the North American Ford Mustang. The European ‘pony’ car was well received by the press and an instant success with the public - a love affair that stills exists today.
Our Marine Blue 2000GT with gold pin stripes, black vinyl roof and tan interior was manufactured in September 1972. The car was stored for a period of time through the 1980’s & 1990’s and bought by the last owner, a qualified engineer, in 2012. He set out to build one of the most usable, best driving Capris in the UK.
Work included:
· Automatic gear box swapped for a newly rebuilt T9 five speed gear box. (No adaptor plates were used – replacement bell-housing sourced/ powder coated)
· Replacement clutch assembly, cable & pedal box
· Manual prop-shaft sourced, rebuilt and balanced with quick shift gear lever
· V4 Essex engine re-bored, rebuilt with (new) KS pistons, key moving parts balanced and NOS tubular manifolds
· Weber DFV carb rebuilt and new K&N filter fitted
· New high torque starter motor, alternator & uprated battery
· Power Assisted Steering – rebuilt rack, modified cross member, new Mk4 Astra power steering pump with (new) hydraulic pipes/ electrics.
· Replacement lower suspension arms, bushes, brake discs, bearings etc.
· Alloy wheels & RS twin headlamp upgrade
· The final part of the jig-saw was to improve interior comfort – Alfa 156 (front) leather seats are a near perfect match both for colour and style
· The bodywork was not touched and presents extremely well with only the odd mark commensurate with the age.
· Large history file details all parts/ costs.
The 2000GT is one of the rarest of all the Capri’s and the blue paint, gold pin-stripes with vinyl roof is a stunning combination. With power steering & five speed gearbox the car drives as good as it looks and is an absolute testament to the knowledge, skill and commitment of the last owner.
