SUMMARY
Originally supplied by Road Range Mercedes, Liverpool, this W124 300E has been owned by the same family for almost 24 years. It comes with the most comprehensive and detailed service history you could hope for, and is probably one of the better examples of a W124 saloon you're likely to find. It's also the flagship model; the 300E, with the syrupy smooth M103 6-cylinder engine, which in my opinion is one of the best engines Mercedes-Benz have every produced and is perfectly suited to the limousine like qualities of the W124's chassis. This car clearly demonstrates that theory in the best possible way. The drive and feel are just sublime; comfortable, relaxed, soothing and reassuring. It's as relaxed at 30 mph as it is on the Autobahn.
Bodywork on this car is excellent, the Anthracite paintwork shines like a new pin, and there's no corrosion in any of the usual area, infact the car had two new genuine wings fitted by Mercedes of Teeside, at considerable expense, not long ago.
Mechanically, as you'd rightly expect of a well maintained W124 that only covered such a low mileage, its in superb order; and if looked after will go on for many, many years to come. Head gasket was replaced less than 10, 000 miles ago by Mercedes-Benz of Tesside.
The build quality of these late 1980's/ early 1990's cars, is from when Mercedes quality was at its absolute pinnacle, and is directly reflected in the colossal price tag of around £30, 000 in 1991... for that amount of money, back then, you could buy a decent house, so these cars were definitely not within reach of the average man in the street!.
Finally, just a note on my experience with the W124. Its been my feeling for quite some time, and is now widely accepted that W124's made pre early 1993, although not quite as refined as the later face-lifted cars, the build quality and corrosion protection are far superior, with a secondary observation being that build quality reached it's absolute peak between 1988-1992. As time has passed this has now become clearly evident in that the older cars, like this one, have survived much better, and more particularly those made in the "glory years" of 1988 - 1992, than some of the later cars.
Personally, I've always preferred the more solid feel and drive quality of these older W124, many fans of facelift cars would disagree, however if you appreciate real quality you simply can't beat any Mercedes made between 88-92, especially the W201 & W124.
Many people like to boldly quote on their adverts "the W124 was the last of the proper Mercedes etc, etc," and in some respects that's true, but in reality the demise in quality of Mercedes cars was actually a more gradual one, with the slide starting around 1993, reaching its lowest ebb in 1998/ 1999. With that in mind, and in my opinion, the last proper bomb proof Mercedes were built pre 1993, so these late 1980's/ early 1990's cars are now becoming a superb proposition.
THE MTSV DIFFERENCE
Unlike some, I don't just simply go out, buy any old car, give it a good clean, then advertise it for more than the purchase price, disregarding any issues the car may have in the hope the new buyer won't notice... I just couldn't do that. The cars I source are carefully selected and I work very hard so that when my cars leave me, I have the satisfaction of knowing they are as good as they possibly can be within the constraints I have. As such I have many repeat customers and new customers that have been recommended via word of mouth... the ultimate accolade for anyone in business.
Any other questions, please feel free to contact me at using the button below or on the details below. I'm a firstly and foremostly a true Mercedes enthusiast of many, many years, and a Mercedes Club Member, so it's a pleasure to meet and speak to like-minded people.
Finally, I'm situated in Keighley, West Yorkshire (Postal Code Area BD21) which is approximately 11 miles from Skipton, and 20 miles West of Leeds.
All major debit/ credit cards accepted.
