1992 Mercedes-Benz 190E 2. 6
By fitting the smooth, powerful 2. 6-litre straight-six into the 190E, Mercedes turned a good car into a great one. It really is the pick of the non-sporting W201 saloons, giving the baby Benz the refinement and performance the model had been crying out for. Due to their substantial price when new they are also the rarest and good examples are few and far between today.
This late 190E 2. 6 was registered on the first of August 1992 by Mercedes agents, J. R. Tagger Ltd of Watford. It was purchased by Mr Bullock of Pinner, Middlesex who kept the car for two years. Since 1994 it has been in the same family until 2017 – initially registered to the husband, then the wife. So 23 years in the same family. We supplied the car to its subsequent owner last year and since he has just bought another car from us we are pleased to offer this W201 for sale again.
The car has covered 133k miles, reassuringly backed up by a Full Service History comprising of 21 stamps in the service book. Half of which are MB main dealer, the rest are MB specialists. Recently serviced and MoT issued.
It is equipped with electric windows and sunroof, headlamp wash/ wipe, automatic gearbox and the desirable extended dashboard console. Plus, the rare and lovely black Sports Check cloth trim.
With the car is its original book pack complete with all original books/ manuals and a clear HPI Certificate.
In terms of condition, this 2. 6 is a very straight original car and very tidy throughout. Importantly there is no corrosion and as you can see on the photos it is very smart indeed. Up close, there are a few minor blemishes to the paintwork commensurate with age but these do not detract from its overall appearance. Original dealer number plates front and rear.
The interior is truly exceptional. First of all, it’s a great spec with the extended dash, Zebrano wood and rare Sports Check trim, but it’s the condition that really impresses. There’s no seat or bolster wear, the door cards (a usual 190E weak spot) are perfect and the wood is bright and glossy. It’s hard to sort out a poor interior on one of these cars, so to find an interior as lovely as this is a huge bonus.
On the road it drives beautifully – quiet and smooth with a potent engine and slick gearbox.
In summary, this is a really well cared for 190E 2. 6 from long-term ownership with a lovely history. Totally original and unmolested. A hard car to find and great value for money.
