Here's my beautiful 1966 Humber Sceptre Mark II 1725cc. These up-market sports saloons were so typically Humber back in the 70s. Luxurious fitments, sporty engine, manual/ overdrive, sports interior and one of the best designed dashboards of the decade. Without a doubt.
That seven-clock dash just does it for me. Simply beautiful with all the switches arranged in perfect symmetry. That was The Rootes Group for you! Finished in light metallic silver with superbly contrasting red interior, this is a super Sceptre. They are outstanding classics to drive with their world famous Rootes 1725cc engine, coupled to overdrive on both 3rd and 4th. There are few makes and models from the mid-sixties to compare with these Humbers and they are rarely offered for sale these days. She is as rust free as most cars of this era can expect to be, just showing some small paint imperfections here and there probably mainly to the roof area. I, for one, could happily live with it. I think they are magnificently designed motors and, as I say in the advert title, great drivers' cars. Her last MoT recently expired and she will no longer require one in a couple of weeks' time. That said, she looks to be really strong and straight underneath. Her sills are excellent too and are deliberately finished in a satin black.
The current classic market place is dictating that, with demand outstripping supply, owners are holding onto these types of cars. They are clearly being enjoyed, pampered and improved while their values continue to rise. Consequently, you rarely see them being thrown back into the mix and put up for sale. So here's an opportunity to grab yourself a classic simply oozing style and class.
Please bear in mind that context is all with these antique vehicles and therefore they cannot be compared to your wife's six-month-old Chelsea tractor. They will all have experienced some sort of remedial work over the years and will doubtless need more in the future. We can never second guess what that may or may not be.
