This very early MKI tax exempt Triumph Stag was first registered on the 11th November 1971 and still retains its correct 2997cc Triumph V8 engine and has the desirable four speed manual gearbox with overdrive. We supplied the Stag to its last three owners in Birmingham, Stockport and Strathaven having previously collected the car from a regular customer in Bradford, West Yorkshire in early 2013. This has always been an outstanding car to drive, we first drove the car 70 miles from Bradford to North Yorkshire and four years on the car still feels perfect on the road. The Stag has covered in the region of 2000 miles in the time we have known it and JMD 627K now returns in part exchange having pleased yet another one of our customers.
JMD 627K now records mileage of 90, 000 miles and we have paperwork and records' dating back to the early 1990's when the mileage was 72000. From the history and a report from 1994, we know the car was subject of a major body restoration that included new body panels and various body repairs to place the car in first class condition. Immediately after restoration, the Triumph was in relatively regular use and covered in the region of 15000 miles up to 2009.
Within the past 3000 miles JMD 627K has had almost £10, 000 spent on further improvements. Mechanically the Stag is in excellent order and benefits from recently replaced brake discs, pads and ball joints. The cylinder heads have both been stripped and rebuilt and the thermostat replaced. Further improvements include new shock absorbers, all new road springs, new brake pipes, hand brake gaiters, two Stromberg carburettors and a re-conditioned radiator. A new fuel pump, tank sender unit and seal, distributor and new overdrive solenoid have also been fitted. The Triumph has also been treated to a full professional re-paint after twenty years since having its body restoration and last full re-paint. More recently with its last owner, the Stag has been treated to a new walnut dashboard, extensive engine bay detailing and a brand new Stag wind deflector.
The exterior condition of the car is very sharp with gleaming White paintwork, a very straight, smart body and bright chrome. The fresh deep finish paintwork is of an excellent standard and panel gaps and alignment are exceptionally good. The upholstery is stunning with good quality original seats. The carpets, door cards and dashboard are all in excellent condition and the boot area is exceptionally tidy and the engine bay is top class. The soft top was recently replaced and is in excellent condition and is not difficult to put up or down.
This MKI Stag is a delight to drive with superb handling, braking and steering. The engine is strong and offers superb performance as expected from a healthy 3. 0 V8 unit. The gearbox is excellent with lovely changes up and down the gearbox, the overdrive comes in and out smoothly and the car cruises superbly. JMD 627K is ideal for long distance touring, rallies, shows or regular use. This is an on the button early Triumph Stag that is extremely useable and offers excellent value having had considerable expenditure over the past few years. MKI Stag's are becoming increasingly popular and correct, top class examples like this are not easy to find.
