The Appeal
Lambretta are named after the region in which they originated, close to the Lambro river in the district of Milan called Lambrate. The company’s origins began with scaffolding company Fratelli Innocenti – hence all the Innocenti branding on the scooters – who saw the need for a cheap form of mass transportation after WWII. Debuted in Paris in 1948, their scooter soon gained in popularity and they struggled to make them fast enough with limited post-war supplies.
This particular model is an early 1954 Type D model, which was available in only three colours: green, grey and beige, with brown seats for the Mk 2 125cc version. This particular example was bought from a Lambretta collector whose thinning down his collection of nearly 50 examples. He had it restored to near museum quality. It’s now in stunning condition and probably has better paintwork than it ever left the factory with!

- Front tyre Sava Vran 4.00-8C B13 (dated 2009) with good tread
Summary
The condition of this two-wheeled Italian artwork has to be seen to be believed – it really is in near museum quality and the restoration work is of the standard to suit the most discerning Lambretta collector (it came from the person who owns the original Quadrophenia movie bike, which reputable changed hands for £36,000). The current owner says it’s in fully rideable condition, too, so whether you use it for a few summer bike shows, or as the centrepiece of your scooter collection mancave, is up to you. You’ll struggle to find a better one.
