The Appeal

The iconic Ford Mustang - this is the essential pony car, and perhaps one of the most famous models in automotive history. Thanks to an array of film roles and its top-form performance, these gas-guzzling all-American machines have become legendary fixtures of popular culture.

This example was imported from the USA in 2005, wherein it received a thorough refurbishment and, in 2011, a replacement uprated engine that brought it up an entire engine code. The car has been in dry storage now since 2015, having only been taken out for a couple of miles. It’ll need some recommissioning work - but just look at it. It’s more than worth it.

The History and Paperwork

The Interior

Originally built with black bucket seats, this Mustang has been retrimmed since its arrival in the UK to cream leather. The result is a highly attractive, sumptuous interior that adds a very real touch of luxury to the pony car. All of the upholstery is in solid order, with a scratch in the driver’s seat bolster and some of the blue finish from the mounting rubbing on the passenger seat’s side. Other than this, we can’t spot any rips or tears.

Some slight scratches are visible on the lower extremities of the doors, but the main door cards and their chrome trims are in good order, with no sagging, tears or scuffs.

The car boasts a wooden dashboard panel, with the instruments beautifully picked out in chrome and the period instruments still bright and easy to read. An upgraded sound system has been installed for modern stereos, and it all looks to be excellent condition - finalised with a steel-spoked, wood-trimmed steering wheel complete with Mustang branding.

The vendor reports that the heater has been disconnected, due to an overflow pipe leak, and that the driver’s seat isn’t folding forward - however, no other faults with the interior have been reported.

The blue carpets and accents look to be in good order, with age-commensurate wear, and Ford Mustang branded mats protect the footwells.

The boot appears to be solid, but has lost much of its lining, with the carpets coming away from the sides. However, the carpets themselves look to be clean, and shouldn’t be too difficult to remount.

The Exterior

Having been repainted some time ago, this Mustang is still an impressive looker. However, micro blistering has taken hold in places, alongside some cracks and the usual stone chips. All the same, it does little to detract from the car and doesn’t appear to be anything substantial.

The chrome is carrying some gentle pitting and patina, commensurate with its age, but still maintains a bright contrast, as with the distinctive Mustang branding. The headlight lenses all appear sound and clear of cracks, while the vendor notes a crack in the windscreen.

Underneath, the car displays some surface corrosion, particularly to the exhaust assembly - but overall appears to be in solid order, thanks to the car’s dry storage.

The Mechanics

Upgraded in 2011 from the original 289ci to a 302ci V8 engine

A look into the engine bay of a Mustang is always a treat, and this one is in excellent condition from what we can discern. Some spots of wear can be highlighted, though nothing serious. We can spot some dried coolant, from the aforementioned leak in the heater’s overflow pipe.

The car has been stood for some time, and so will need recommissioning upon purchase. But from what we can spot, there’s nothing of major concern.

Summary

From its attractive interior, to its bright paintwork and impressive engine, this Mustang is a unique and very nicely presented example that requires only minimal work. A dedicated mechanic should find this a breeze to refresh for the road.
