THE ATTRACTIONS

A hugely important model in Ferrari's history, the GT4 developed the concept of an agile, compact high-performance sports car born with the Dino 206 and 246. It was the first Ferrari with a mid-mounted V8 engine, the progenitor of a series of highly successful sports cars.
Conceived in the wake of soaring oil prices in the early 1970s and designed to circumvent Italian legislation that heavily taxed vehicles with engines over 2000 cc, the Dino 208 GT4 was launched in 1975 to offer Ferrari customers an alternative to the three-litre 308 GT4 of 1973, with an engine of just under two litres cubic capacity achieved by reducing the bore by 15 mm.
Otherwise, the transversely mounted all-alloy V8 with twin overhead camshafts was essentially identical to that of the 308, and with the adoption of four Weber carburettors and an increased compression ratio, power was still high at around 180 hp, allowing truly remarkable performance for the time.
From 1976, GT4s were sold under the Ferrari badge, and the Dino badges on early examples were replaced with the classic Prancing Horse.
This beautiful 1977 Ferrari 208 GT4, scrupulously maintained by its only three owners, looks extremely attractive, with the vivid Rosso Ferrari colour scheme replacing the original blue and a precious interior reupholstered in black leather.
Equipped with a rare original oversized front spoiler, as certified by Ferrari S.p.a., and with many original options, it has been an ASI member since 2009.
Bursting with glamour and produced in only 840 examples, the 208 GT4 offers the excitement and charm of a classic Ferrari, the inimitable and exciting sound of an eight-cylinder carburettor engine and the unusual ability for a sports thoroughbred to accommodate four passengers in an impressive cabin.
This well-presented and documented example, which has always been maintained with great care and has received a full MOT before sale, is a valuable opportunity to acquire a model of great historical importance, capable of delivering inimitable thrills and ready to drive.

  • Overhaul valid until 2024
  • ASI registered since 2009
Sold in Italy from new, this GT4 has had only three owners and is accompanied by its up-to-date registration certificate and a Declaration issued by Ferrari S.p.a certifying that the optional oversized front spoiler is original and was factory-fitted.
The 2009 ASI registration shows the bodywork colour change and interior refurbishment carried out in 1987, certifying that it correctly matched the colour scheme of the time.

CONDITION

  • Seats and door panels in very good condition
  • Dashboard efficient and intact
  • Air conditioning
  • Electrically operated windows
  • Bodywork free of visible defects
  • Ferrari Red paintwork
  • Bumpers, chrome and badges in excellent condition

The very sporty and attractive interior of this 208 is very well preserved, with handsome seats and door panels reupholstered in black leather, black carpets free of visible flaws, polished chrome and well-aligned surfaces.
One of the GT4's strong points is the availability of rear seats, with two anatomically designed sports seats in excellent condition.
In the central tunnel, in addition to the characteristic five-speed gearbox with chrome grille that conveys strong emotions, there are controls for the air-conditioning and optional electrically operated windows and the vintage radio.
In front of the driver, framed by the handsome three-spoke Momo steering wheel with leather crown, the attractive wraparound dashboard accommodates the large Veglia Borletti speedometer and tachometer and smaller gauges for oil pressure and temperature, water temperature and fuel level, all perfectly legible and efficient.
At the ends of the instrument panel are ventilation controls as well as a series of switches and warning lights.
Characterized by a sharp front end with pop-up headlights and a wedge-shaped profile, the very personal, aggressive and striking bodywork by Bertone, with taut surfaces, sharp creases and short overhangs, is made of steel, with the exception of the aluminium bonnet and front bonnet, and is in remarkably good condition, with no visible defects, painted in classic Ferrari red that replaced the original blue in 1987.
Fascinating styling details such as the optional sharp front spoiler, the polished grille on the front bonnet and the air intakes in the rear pillars further embellish the car, which features gleaming chrome, Ferrari alloy wheels, well-preserved headlights, lettering, badges and bumpers.
