The 110 Land Rover has been and continues to be a popular classic vehicle to own. As well as working on the underpinnings, the previous owner also decided to replace the V8 engine and gear-box with fresher items.
The original engine and gearbox will also be included in the sale. Extra work was done to the suspension too while the chassis was renovated. In the hands of the present owner, work has continued to improve this world-beating off-roader. The second row of seats has been replaced with those from a Renault Scenic which provides more comfort and versatility. The second-row seats and rear side seats that a currently removed to provide more luggage space are also still available and will come with the car. All Land Rover interiors a built to work hard but many show wear and neglect due to the arduous life they sometimes endure. This interior however has been treated a little more kindly. It wasn’t without some wear issues though. The front seats often suffer from people sliding on and off the seats which wear the sides and foam within. On this car that common issue has been cured by having the two front seats stripped and re-cushioned and the side vinyl replaced professionally.
The centre seats from the Megane Scenic offer a little more comfort and are more adjustable than the originals. The headlining is in good condition as is all the switchgear. The owner is certain that everything works as it should. To add a little bit of 21st-century technology the original radio has been replaced with a quality Bluetooth head unit that has DAB reception and an auxiliary port. Extra sound deadening has been used under the carpets too for that little extra refinement. The seller also added a 12v socket in the rear
The bodywork on this Land Rover is still in very good original condition and has not needed any repairs or resprays. Still, in its original colour scheme and decals, the body has inevitably collected one or two minor dents, and they are minor too considering the age and what purpose Land Rovers are put.
A set of folding side steps have been recently fitted along with a rear swing arm that now takes the weight of that large spare wheel. The clean rims are shod in a set of Maxxis all-terrain tyres that have plenty of life in them. The go-anywhere look is further enhanced with the addition of a set of Oscar-style spot lamps.
The original engine was swapped for another for an unknown reason but it runs smoothly and quietly without any apparent excess of fumes. The original engine and gearbox will be included in the sale allowing for further investigation and possible refitting should the new owner wish to return the vehicle to its original condition. The mileage displayed on the odometer cannot be verified as it is unknown at what mileage the engine was swapped and how many miles the replacement has covered.
The body has been removed to allow for the refurbishment of the chassis, during which the suspension was also refreshed with new springs and shock absorbers, the bulkhead was replaced and some poly bushes were fitted to the front radius arms. All brakes have been serviced and a whole stainless exhaust has now been fitted, including the manifolds.
There’s nothing quite like a Land Rover. Their ruggedness and ability to take on anything are legendary. Of course, they weren’t without fault with weaknesses such as rust developing in the chassis. This veteran vehicle has had that all sorted because a previous owner has had the presence of mind to do a body off refurb so all those little nooks and crannies where dirt and water collect have all been carefully attended to.
Our current owner has also been busy enhancing his ‘Landie’ ownership by fitting a set of more comfortable and adjustable passenger seating and an up to date music system with telephony. Land Rovers are a popular vehicle and their rarity is pushing up their desirability to car thieves with many stolen to order. However, this one wouldn’t be taken so easily as there is a very clever anti-theft device that unfolds from the driver’s seat base and locks access to the pedals.
Ownership of any Land Rover is a rewarding experience and non-more rewarding than buying into one that is still so original and yet has had that all-important defensive work done to give the car years of service in whatever task you put it to.
