The Appeal 

This example is in the popular black on black colourway and represents an honest example of the groundbreaking Boxster. The car is reported to drive well with a very sporty character with its 2.5L six-cylinder engine mated to a five-speed manual gearbox.

The History and Paperwork 

• This Boxster left the Uusikaupunki Valmet factory in Finland in 1998 
• Boxsters were produced in Finland as well as Germany for the series 1 
• This was the second year of Boxster production 
• The car was produced as a factory left hand drive model 
• Its mph speedometer and data plates suggest it was originally destined for the USA / Canada 
• The Boxster is currently offered by a specialist dealer in the Netherlands 
• The car boasts sensible, reportedly, original mileage 
• This equates to less than 4,000 miles per year on average 
• This Boxster is thought to come with registration and valid inspection documents 
• These currently pertain to mainland European geographies 

The Interior 

• This Boxster exhibits a high-quality cabin associated with the Porsche brand 
• The interior is finished in black with a high quality of materials in evidence 
• The high-backed sports seats are finished in subtle black leather 
• The seat centres are horizontally pleated and perforated 
• The driver’s seat exhibits some splitting at the seams  
• The seats benefit from electrical adjustment 
• The dashboard is dominated by the familiar VDO instrument cluster 
• The white on black gauges consist of a central tachometer and MPH speedometer

• The Boxster features surprisingly generous luggage capacity 
• This consists of a deep carpeted compartment in the nose of the car 
• The space saver spare wheel, jack and tools are also housed here 
• The mid-engined configuration also allows for a boot in the rear

The Exterior

• The fabric of the hood appears to be well presented 
• The rear window seems to be clear and uncracked 
• The genuine Porsche “Twist” alloys are staggered on the Boxster  
• This results in 7” rims at the front and 8.5” at the rear with a 17-inch diameter 
• These appear to be in a fine overall condition with no dings or kerb rash noted 
• A matching set of Cooper Zeon tyres are fitted 

The Mechanics 

• In this series 1 form the Boxster is fitted with the 2,480cc flat-six boxer engine 
• This twin bearing 2.5L engine has proved a more durable iteration than the later 2.7L cars 
• In factory trim this engine was rated at around 200bhp and 180Ib-ft of torque 
• Power is fed to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox 
• In a car weighing around 1,250kgs that makes for a spirited driving experience 
• As can be seen in our photographic package the underside of the car presents well 
• All expected covers are in place and seemingly undamaged 
• The vendor attests to the car starting, driving and stopping
