The Appeal
The E36 M3 is, in many ways, peak BMW, coming as it did at the tipping point when technology aided rather than swamped analogue feel. But if you love these cars, you know the true top dog is the M3 Evo, the version that incorporated a host of improvements.
Key to the Evolution’s appeal is the larger and more powerful 3.2L straight six S50 motor. Double VANOS and revised suspension mean these quicker cars handle and engage far better too. They can be identified by their white front indicators, so the eagle-eyed will be ahead of us here and have spotted that this 1999 M3 convertible is indeed an Evo.
The current keeper acquired the car in 2012 and has looked after it well, including over £3,700 invested in 2022 to replace a long list of engine suspension and brake components. The invoice is included in the photos. The blue fabric roof was replaced in 2021.
