The Appeal
The Lotus Elise transformed the sports car market upon its launch in 1996, returning to the marque’s long-established philosophy of adding lightness. Built around a pioneering bonded aluminium chassis and clothed in lightweight composite bodywork, the Elise tipped the scales at less than 750kg, delivering performance and agility that belied its modest power output.
Its minimalist approach extended beyond the engineering. With no power steering, little in the way of sound insulation and few concessions to luxury, the Elise was designed with a singular focus on driver engagement. The combination of its featherweight construction, beautifully balanced mid-engined layout and eager Rover K-Series engine resulted in a car that remains one of the purest sports cars of the modern era. Even today, its steering is widely regarded as among the finest ever fitted to a road car.
Finished in an attractive Titanium Silver and red colour combination, this Series 1 example has covered fewer than 11,500 miles in the hands of just two owners from new. Recently serviced, including replacement of the timing belt, it presents an increasingly rare opportunity to acquire a low-mileage example of one of the most celebrated British sports cars of recent decades. Whether destined for a collection or a favourite stretch of B-road, it promises to deliver an immensely rewarding driving experience.
