The XKR is the ultimate derivative of the original Jaguar XK8 “X100” sports car, with incredible performance, shrieking supercharger, gorgeous looks and a wonderfully balanced chassis.
Launched in 1996, the model was revised in 2002 with the original 4.0-litre V8 increased in size to 4.2-litres and the power upped from 370bhp to 400bhp.
This example is one of the very, very last. A 2006 model registered just before the new “X150” XK appeared. It has been cossetted from new and used rarely, having amassed a mileage of just 11,514 in total. It’s as close as you’ll find to a new one!YAVG11bM69c1PDlSbkSyXO0KysVsm4Ackn02fSRn.jpeg1.98 MB
Inside, the XKR is as sumptuous and luxurious as you’d expect from any Jaguar – a rather distinct juxtaposition to the performance on offer.
This one is a striking colour scheme – Magnolia leather, and walnut veneers in lieu of the ‘sportier’ dark wood or carbon finishes usually fitted to the sports-oreinted XKR models. The seats, carpets and doors are excellent, as you’d expect given the tiny mileage, while the vendor believes that the rear seat has never been sat in.
The XKR looks fantastic in Frost Blue, with smart factory option 20-inch BBS split-rim alloy wheels that really set off its sporting appearance.
The panels are all straight and dent-free and there are no rust bubbles in any of the usual areas, such as the rear wheel arches and trailing edges of the sills. The underside of the car is described by the vendor as very solid and it has never seen any welding, nor has ever had any corrosion advisories on past MOT tests. Indeed, it’s pretty much flawless throughout. A few tiny, tiny stone chips, but it’s otherwise as it left the factory.J4EfPX6bhvgMVIJKJogvFHyPmWCwiknNnzyXfgh5.jpeg2.26 MB
THE MECHANICS
Supercharged 4.2-litre V8
Six-speed auto transmission
Amazing 400bhp performance
Tiny mileage
Full maintenance history
This is the full-fat real deal – a genuine XKR, with the later and more powerful supercharged 4.2-litre V8 kicking out 400bhp. It runs sweetly and sounds incredible, the sharp whistle of the supercharger accompanying the eager rush of acceleration between each gear. It really is a fast and responsive car, yet despite the incredible performance on offer it still retains Jaguar’s traditionally cossetting ride.
The vendor reports it to be in excellent working order with no known faults. The low mileage is backed up by a full service history and invoices from Jaguar main dealers documenting work carried out. y55D11GUsAUIzfvFufUU5qDrdvGISb2FgwG7mbHN.jpeg1.16 MB
SUMMARY
This is a genuine, immaculate and low mileage example of a 4.2-litre XKR and is in lovely order inside and out. Add in the scintillating performance on offer, the rare interior colour scheme and the terrific combination of comfort and performance and you have one of the best modern classic grand tourers that money can buy. It’s a lovely thing, and as close to a new one as you’re ever likely to find.
