The Appeal
Introduced in 2006, the Alfa Romeo Spider was built upon a GM platform, but featured wholly Italian Pininfarina styling, the choice of a 2.2-litre or 3.2-litre petrol engine, and later the option of a JTD common rail diesel engine and a 1.75-litre petrol engine in addition to the two launch options.
Having won the ‘Cabrio of the year’ award at the 2006 Geneva Motor Show, the Spider proved to be an instant hit with consumers. Despite this, and in typical Alfa Romeo tradition, production numbers were low, with only 12,488 units built between 2006 and 2010.

History and paperwork

First registered in 2008, this 2.2-litre JTS limited edition model is finished in black over a tan/orange leather interior, which contrasts fantastically against the bodywork.
Owned by the current keeper for around six years, the car has been kept in top condition, though minimal annual mileage has been covered, on average only around 1-2 thousand per year since 2017.
Included with the vehicle is the V5 showing just four former keepers, a number of MoT certificates and invoices, a stamped service record and two sets of keys.
The most recent service took place in May 2022 at 61,233 miles.
The Interior

Finished in contrasting tan/orange leather with brushed aluminium accents and inserts, the cabin of this Spider remains in excellent condition throughout, having seemingly led an easy-going life since being built.
Of course, there are some minor areas of wear-and-tear visible, such as on the outer bolsters of the seats, the inner door sill covers, and the high-traffic touch-points, which is commensurate for the vehicle’s age and mileage.
Elsewhere, we also noted that the brushed surround to the centre console is showing some wear and indentations, though nothing which affects the operation of any controls and switches.
The original stereo and infotainment unit remains in-situ, whilst the steering wheel, shifter and luggage compartment all remain in very good condition.
The vendor reports no known faults with any systems or gauges within the cabin.
The Exterior

On the outside, the Pininfarina-penned lines of this Spider JTS edition remain untroubled by the passage of time, and still look striking to this day. The panel themselves are also free of any noticeable scuffs, dents or accident damage as far as we can see.
The paintwork remains in a similarly good condition overall, though the usual stone chips to the front end are present, along with some gravel rash noticed around the rear of the wheel arches.
We also noticed some dulling/corrosion to the mesh grilles and badge on the front end, but this is a purely superficial concern.
Speaking of the wheels, there are some kerb marks and rash to note, and a refurbishment would be advised to bring them back to their best, though they are perfectly useable as they sit.
Up above, the folding roof is in excellent shape, wth only a few minor marks and imperfections, but no damage or waterproofing concerns to report.
The Mechanics

Alfa have always managed to make their engines look good, and the 2.2-litre ‘twin phaser’ under the bonnet of this Spider is no exception.
Evidently, the bay has been given plenty of detailing attention, as it presents wonderfully overall.
Looking closer, we can see no sign of any leaks, misting or stains that would be any cause for concern, simply some light surface corrosion to a few brackets, and some wear-and-tear to the graphics - both of which are commensurate for a vehicle of this age and mileage.
With a recent clutch and flywheel fitted by the vendor, and a strong service history comprised mostly of OE Alfa Romeo dealerships, this is a wonderfully strong and healthy example of the breed, with the vendor reporting no known faults or issues.
Summary
With its Italian flair, striking colour scheme and boasting the additional provenance of being a JTS limited edition, this is a well-kept and eminently useable example of the drop-top Italian sports car. You know what they say - you aren’t a petrolhead unless you’ve owned an Alfa, and this looks like a great place to start given the current weather!
