The Appeal

Losing your head doesn’t mean you have to lose your edge. The introduction of the 911 Cabriolet made a lot of people sceptical, however the scepticism was short lived after getting behind the wheel and letting the car prove that it is, in fact, every bit as good as the coupe with a slight edge for those who like to feel the wind in their hair.
Not only does the Turbo S appeal to those with an addiction to speed and ridiculous handling, but it’s also shockingly good at being driven slow. So really - the target market for this car is pretty much everybody - unless you don’t like Porsche, but that’s just silly.
This particular example is presented beautifully in a Macadamia Metallic Brown - which may be Marmite to some (the food, not the colour) but we absolutely adore it. The current owner has had custodianship since 2014 and has cherished every moment of it, ensuring that work carried out has been done by professionals either at a Porsche dealer or specialist. No skimping here, just the way we like it.

The History and Paperwork

  • Originally registered on the 4th of April 2008
  • V5C present and ready for transfer
  • Original 911 owners manual
  • Current keeper purchased the vehicle in 2014 as Porsche Approved
  • Garage stored when not in use with the current owner
  • Great service history mainly from Porsche Centre Brooklands
  • Invoices from EPorsche, most creeping into 4 figure sums
  • Turbos replaced by Porsche under technical service bulletin
  • GT3 Cup motorsport steel discs installed at the recommendation of EPorsche, the original PCCB (Porsche Carbon Ceramic Brakes) are still with the owner and would need relaminated

The Interior

  • Black and Sand Beige leather upholstery
  • Grey/silver contrast stitching
  • Original PCM present and fully functional
  • Sports Chrono package
  • 997.2 steering wheel fitted (original 997.1 wheel will come with the vehicle)
  • Porsche wind deflector
  • Turbo kick plates
  • Original carpets and mats
There’s something about Porsche build quality that feels almost unrivalled - everything is sturdy and solid, and finding any creaks or groans that’s prevalent in many other German cars, is somewhat of a difficult task. It’s a hard thing to describe, but experiencing it changes your expectations for what an interior should be.
This example is wonderfully specified with black and sand beige interior upholstery which presents itself in lovely shape with just gentle signs of age and use. The front seats remain well kept with only the driver's side bolster showing signs of wear from getting in and out of the car - they’re hard to miss with how aggressive the bolsters are to hold you snugly in place. There are no rips though, just some stitching thread that has worn away into someone’s jacket over the years of love and use.
A lovely 997.2 steering wheel has been fitted to the cabin to update the interior and it is a very welcome and eye-pleasing addition - the owner does note however that the car will come with the original 997.1 steering wheel should the new owner require it. All of the gauges function as they should with no warning lights present, and this example has also been fitted with the Sports Chrono package which includes a chronometer mounted up in the middle of the dashboard as well as a “sport” button on the centre console which is much desired. All of the centre console controls are functional and easy to read, and the original PCM remains present and functions as you would expect!
The rear seats, which appear only to be useful for ferrying around legless passengers or a couple of shopping bags, are in excellent condition. There are gentle signs of use but really not much - presumably the odd bag or miscellaneous item have been stored here. Carpets are all original and show no signs of damage, there is some wear but nothing to shout about - just what’s to be expected.
Door cards both remain in great condition, the leather appears undamaged with stitching intact and no immediate signs of any scuff marks on the panels - rare that!
Overall, the interior of this 911 is a fantastic place to be - proper luxury with excellent specification, and the welcome addition of the 997.2 steering wheel brings it to a whole new level!

The Exterior

  • Macadamia Metallic Brown paintwork
  • Black cabriolet roof
  • Original 911 Turbo wheels
  • Yellow brake calipers all round
  • Bridgestone Potenza tyres
  • All original bodywork
  • Panel gaps all of factory fitment
Body lines that would make anyone weak at the knees. The 911 is, and always has been, the absolute staple for Porsche. The Turbo variants just make them that little bit more lustful, with its wide hips, side-mounted air scoops, rear wing and a devastating amount of power to boot. The road presence of any 911 is nothing short of extraordinary, but the visual cues of the Turbo variant is what really gets the blood pressure up.
This example is finished in a gorgeous Macadamia Metallic Brown paint which appears to be in excellent condition and remains on original bodywork, all of the panel gaps throughout appear to be of factory fitment with no notable signs of damage. The black cabriolet roof remains in admirable condition too, with no rips or tears, just some small marks on the passenger side rear.
At the front of the car, the paintwork appears to be excellent with just the usual stone chips which should be expected. Both front headlights are free from damage and are fully functional as are the DRL’s.
To the side of the curvaceous 911, the original Turbo wheels are presented in excellent condition with seemingly no damage and shod in Bridgestone Potenza tyres with plenty of tread. Paintwork along both sides appears to be damage free, with some gentle stone chipping in the air ducts above the rear wheels. Bodywork panels appear to be in great shape with no apparent damage or dings.
To the rear of the Porsche, much remains the same with lovely paintwork condition, tail lights in excellent shape with great clarity, and the Turbo badge designation reminds the slower cars (or just anyone behind you really) that you’re not to be messed with.
All round this is a fantastic example of the beloved 911, with a unique and well chosen specification.

The Mechanics

  • Mezger twin-turbo 3.6L flat-six engine
  • 5-speed tiptronic transmission with paddle shift
  • 473 bhp and 457 lb-ft of torque
  • Turbos replaced in 2010 under a Porsche TSB
  • Excellent service history
  • Sports Chrono Pack
  • GT3 Cup motorsport discs
  • Original PCCB’s present with the owner
Based on the 911 GT1 engine, the Mezger 3.6 is a competition-bred powerhouse that lacks the dreaded IMS bearing issue which plagued 911’s of this era. The Turbo and the GTs that house this engine are priced at steep premiums over the much more accessible M96-powered Carreras, and those values appear to just keep climbing likely due to the cars low production numbers and the still-impressive performance.
In 2010, the car's history shows a workshop TSB undertaken by Porsche for replacing the VTG Turbochargers, these were replaced voluntarily due to the possibility of corrosion within the turbine's variable turbine geometry system. The VTG system is an extremely impressive bit of tech for a 2008 car, it enables the vanes on the turbine wheel to change their angle of attack with exhaust speed, this reduces turbo lag on the low end and prevents back pressure at high RPM.
This 911 provides excellent service history with Porsche Centre Brooklands, as well as some mechanical work undertaken at EPorsche to do with the braking system - it was recommended by the specialist at the time to switch to GT3 cup car discs, as the vehicle had already gone through two sets of carbon ceramics by now. Porsche were still learning the in’s and out’s of carbon ceramics, so they weren’t as durable as the marque expected - the owner still has these and they would require refurbishing should the new custodian wish to put them back on the car. The cooling system also had some work carried out, replacing vital parts such as the turbo intercoolers in 2020. In 2023, EPorsche removed all of the arch liners and under trays to clean the chassis and protect it with Lanoguard, as well as clean the cabriolet roof and seal it with genuine Porsche protectant.
The vehicle is reported to drive absolutely fantastic, with very direct mechanical handling, strong braiding force and blistering performance from that bred-to-race Mezger engine mounted behind you. No unwanted knocks or clunks are present throughout use, this 911 Turbo is ready to go!
This example is also fitted with the Sports Chrono Package which is much more than just the chronometer mounted up on the dash, it includes a sports button on the centre console that transforms the drivability of the vehicle, holding lower gears for longer, allowing for an overboost function increasing boost from 1 bar to 1.2 bar for a limited time, relaxing the stability management system. It’s often argued that this is one of the most desirable packages to have on a 911 Turbo.

Summary

This 911 Turbo would be a welcome addition to anyone's driveway or collection, fitted with the highly desired Mezger twin-turbo engine you can rest assured that it will remain reliable and without the common issues of the naturally aspirated variants, not only that, these models have been holding their value strong and earlier models are already on the rise - so who’s to say this wouldn’t make a great investment too?
