The Appeal
For as long as they have been in production, Land Rovers have often been the number one choice for estate work all over the world. They’re supremely capable utility vehicles and really look at home in the rural setting or outside a large country pile
This Galloway Green Defender dates from 2011 and has been used to maintain a country estate for much of its life, covering a mere 68,086 miles from new. With a ply-lined rear load area separated from the rest of the cabin by a steel mesh, this is an exceedingly practical Land Rover and would be a great tool to have around.

The Interior
- Plywood-lined rear load area

Despite the fact that this Land Rover has been a working vehicle for much of its life, the interior presents really well and there is little wear to be seen.
Up front, the two grey cloth seats are in really nice shape and don’t seem to exhibit any excessive wear, staining or damage. There are also protective seat covers supplied, the past fitment of which is likely the reason the seats are in such good order. Between driver and passenger you’ll find a practical cuddy equipped with cup holders.
The dashboard looks to be in really good shape and there is no discernable wear to the switchgear. The vendor points out that it has electric windows, which is a nice touch. We note a Pioneer Bluetooth stereo is fitted and the vendor informs us that it works as it should.
Protecting the floor, heavy duty rubber mats are a great practical feature and you wouldn’t be afraid to tread muddy boots inside. These display very few signs of use and the same can be said of the headlining. We note the glass covering the instrument cluster has a little damage but this does not impede the driver’s view of the gauges.
In the rear, which is separated by a metal mesh, everything has been lined with ply-wood which serves the dual purpose of reducing road noise and protecting the vehicle from the variety of things which will inevitably have been transported on a regular basis.
Naturally, there is some staining to the ply but it looks to remain eminently serviceable and we note there are some handy lashing points. All of the door cards, including the one affixed to the rear door, look to be in nice condition, suggesting this vehicle has not lived an especially hard life.
The Exterior

Finished in the rather handsome and appropriately rural shade of Galloway Green, this Land Rover presents well and bears few scars despite its past life as a working vehicle.
Upon close inspection, you will of course notice the odd scratch and small dent but nothing jumps out at you from any angle. The bodywork appears largely straight with good door fit and the paint still shines.
It sits upon the correct alloy wheels which are shod with General rubber tyres.
Underneath, the chassis and running gear all look to be quite sound so far as we could see. There is a fair bit of surface corrosion on show so we recommend a thorough inspection of the chassis and potentially some fresh protection from the elements. There is no evidence of past repairs and the typically troublesome areas such as the rear crossmember look to be in good order.
The vendor points out that there are additional door locks and the vehicle also benefits from central locking.

As an estate vehicle, this Land Rover has covered relatively few miles in its lifetime and most of these have been on private land and around the local town. Mechanically, we’re informed that it is in fine fettle, driving really well indeed. Under the bonnet, there is a little corrosion to the fuel rail and some of the alloy castings, but nothing that would unduly concern us.
The 2.4-litre Puma engine provides ample torque for heavy work and with a six-speed manual gearbox, this Defender is a little more long-legged than many of its predecessors. A further security feature is a fuel pump cut-off switch which apparently works correctly.
Summary
Here we have a really nice example of a well looked after, working Land Rover. This is a great specification for further utility use, or with the addition of some rear seats, would make the ultimate fun family vehicle.
