The Appeal

Used as a business vehicle for day/weekend hire and guided road trips around the surrounding countryside, this car needs to find a new home as the business is slimming down its fleet. It benefits from being serviced every 6,000 miles or annually by the company’s own mechanic, the last service being in 2022.

The Interior

• Original beige leather interior shows the usual signs of wear commensurate with the cars age and mileage
• Steering wheel shows some wear and the drivers seat particularly has a fair amount of wear and a small tear in the lower part of the bolster
• There are some scratches to the leather and a few marks hear and there throughout he cabin, but no cracks visible in the wooden veneer
• Electric windows
• Electric seats (passenger side electric motor does not work and will need to be replaced 
• Air conditioning
• Central locking
• Cassette / CD changer – currently not working
• Headlining slightly sagging to the rear
• Door cards in good shape
• Carpets good with overmats
• Clean carpeted boot with full-size spare alloy wheel

 

 

The Exterior

• Blue Metallic paintwork looks good but has a few scuffs and scratches throughout
• The paintwork was restored in 2022 at a cost of c.£2k by a professional bodyshop. Since then the bodywork has picked up some light scratches that would hopefully come out with professional detailing
• Bodywork partly restored and resprayed in 2021 to address rot in the arches to a cost of c.£2k
• Small dent to rear offside wing
• A few paint chips to the roof 
• Two small rust bubbles were evident on both ‘A’ pillars
• Windscreen has a crack to the corner and is showing some delamination
• Jaguar Alloys are in fair shape, however the two to the nearside have some kerbing damage 
• Wing mirrors have been scuffed and one side has some paint peeling
• Lights all work – small crack in rear nearside brake light

 

The Mechanics

• 3,980 V8 engine
• 5-speed automatic gearbox
• Gearbox has been replaced with a good refurbished second-hand unit in 2020
• Front shocks replaced in 2020
• The front floor panels have also been replaced, a fairly common weakness in these cars
• Stability Control and Traction Control warning lights come on (although weren’t on at the time of viewing) so new owner will need to investigate
• The car has recently developed an electrical fault that appears to be related to one of the front wheel speed sensors and the ABS pump, causing the ABS warning light on the dashboard to display and the speedo to stop working
• A sensor for the coolant level also appears to be providing a false reading that the coolant is low
• There was a slight knocking noise at idle which the vendor believes is the tappets
• Otherwise the car starts and runs as it should
