This very original Lotus Elan Sprint SE FHC was first registered on the 22nd November 1972 and has covered just 78, 000 miles from new and still retains its original Lagoon Blue colour scheme, original interior trim, original yet fully rebuilt engine and original chassis. YNE 124L even retains its original windscreen with running in stickers and comes with a comprehensive history file including maintenance log, invoices, service book and handbook. We collected the car from North London and it has been with its most recent owner for nine years. Initially, for around four years the Elan was used as an everyday driver and in 2010 it was driven from London to Barcelona faultlessly proving its capable of long distance touring. Over the past nine years the Elan has covered 13, 000 miles and during the first year of ownership between 2009 and 2010 it covered 8, 000 miles.
The Elan Sprint has had in the region of £15, 000 spent with its last owner and the most significant work includes an engine rebuild in 2016 by Lotus specialists Lakeside Engineering. The rebuild included new main bearings and big end bearings, both top end and bottom end rebuild with new gaskets etc. Further work included fitting electronic ignition, high torque starter motor, fuel pump, new stub axle assemblies and new suspension bushes. Earlier on during ownership the Elan was treated to new clutch slave and master cylinder, new main wiring loom, ring gear and in 2010 it was also treated to a strip down and re-paint.
Eight years on since the re-paint there is evidence of some paintwork reaction, so the Elan is booked into our Malton Coachworks bodyshop for a full professional top class re-paint. The result will be a first class finish putting the car into beautiful condition. With its lovely, honest and original interior, superb rebuilt engine and strong mechanicals, the Elan Sprint will be an incredibly sought-after car and offer a wonderful opportunity to purchase a car with excellent provenance and low mileage. On the road YNE 124L is super impressive with excellent road holding, handling, braking and performance. The engine has only covered minimal mileage since rebuild, the gearbox is a delight and with a recently replaced wiring loom electrics are in excellent order. The chassis and underside is structurally superb so there is no doubt YNE 124L is an exciting Elan Sprint to consider.
