Advertising Policy

We want to help you sell your car quickly, easily and for the right price.

We ask that you follow our guidelines. If you don't, you may be subject to a range of actions. We may limit, restrict, or suspend you from buying, selling or using site features. All of your listings may be removed, displayed lower or not shown in search results, without refunding any or all applicable fees. You may also forfeit special account status and any discounts.

For more information, see our seller FAQs.

  1. Understand our policies. It is your responsibility to review and understand our policies, as well as all applicable laws and regulations as outlined in the terms of our terms and conditions. By submitting an advert, you agree to these terms and conditions.

  2. About Car & Classic. Car & Classic does not have possession of anything listed or sold through Car & Classic, and is not involved in the actual transaction between buyers and sellers. The contract for the sale is directly between buyer and seller. Car & Classic is not a party to the transaction. While we may provide pricing, postage, listing and other guidance in our services, such guidance is solely informational and you may decide to follow it or not.

  3. Disputes. While we may help facilitate the resolution of disputes, Car & Classic has no control over, and does not guarantee the existence, quality, safety or legality of, vehicles advertised; the truth or accuracy of users' content, adverts, listings or feedback; the ability of sellers to sell vehicles; the ability of buyers to pay for vehicles; or that a buyer or seller will actually complete a transaction or return a vehicle.

  4. Advertising. When viewing any listing, buyers expect the information contained within the listing to be fair, honest and not misleading. It is your responsibility as an advertiser to make sure that you comply with those principles when creating your listings. These principles are generally enforced by the Advertising Standards Authority ("ASA") and found in the UK Code of Non-broadcast Advertising and Direct & Promotional Marketing (the CAP Code). It is highly recommended that before you create any adverts you read through the CAP Code to help you understand what you must and must not do when creating your adverts.

  5. Contact information. To make sure all transactions go smoothly, you're required to provide up-to-date and accurate contact information, including name, address, and phone number. It's important that a valid email address is registered to your account so we can easily communicate with you.

  6. Vehicle-related adverts only. Adverts must be for car-related items and uploaded to the appropriate category or areas on the site. Adverts for inappropriate or unrelated vehicles may be deleted.

  7. Authority to sell vehicles. Before listing a vehicle for sale, you must ensure that you are legally able to sell every vehicle included in an advert. You must also ensure it is lawful to sell this vehicle to UK residents or that it is lawful to sell and export this vehicle to residents of overseas countries. Creating a listing on Car & Classic also involves entering into a contract so all our advertisers must be aged 18 years or older.

  8. Postage. Where relevant, be sure to specify postage and related service charges in your listings. It's against our rules to provide unclear or misleading delivery information or to charge unreasonable fees for postage and related services.

  9. Delivery. Buyers want to know when they can get their vehicles. We ask that you clearly and accurately specify in your advert when the vehicle will be dispatched

  10. Vehicle location. Include accurate location descriptions for your vehicle. Including false, inaccurate, vague, or misleading vehicle location information may lead to confusion around delivery/collection time and postage costs.

  11. Listing upgrades. Listing upgrades can affect the appearance or placement of listings in the search and browse results.

  12. Duplicate listings. To ensure buyers see a wide variety of options from a variety of advertisers, we don't allow more than one fixed price or more than one classified listing of an identical vehicle at the same time from the same advertiser. All adverts should be for a single vehicle. Exceptions will be considered on an individual basis. We reserve the right to restrict the total number of adverts submitted from a single x to what we consider to be a reasonable limit. In certain cases, we can provide alternative options if you need a higher number of adverts.

  13. Uploading content. Text on adverts is limited and up to 12 photos can be added. Upload only quality photos - avoid images that are blurry, undefined or distorted. Adverts should only include content relevant to the vehicle for sale. Adverts must not contain illegal, offensive, sexual or infringing content. Copying photos from other websites or internet searches may be considered copyright infringement. You understand that we may use your content, including any photographs you upload, for marketing and promotional purposes.

  14. Publication time and duration. Your listing may not be immediately searchable by keyword or category. Whilst we aim to publish your advert within six hours of submission and to host it for 12 consecutive weeks, Car & Classic does not guarantee exact publishing times or listing durations.

  15. Vehicle description. The listing page is where buyers get most of their information about a vehicle. Information in the listing helps buyers decide what to buy and know what to expect when they receive or collect the vehicle. It's important to make sure that you provide complete and accurate details of the vehicle you are listing, specify the condition of the vehicle and explain any defects or flaws on the vehicle – this helps avoid problems or buyer dissatisfaction. When selling flawed vehicles, we recommend you also include pictures of the flaws. We retain the right to ask for further information before publishing an advert. Remember, you are responsible for the accuracy, content and legality of the vehicle listed.

  16. Terms and conditions. It's important that you clearly specify the terms and conditions of the sale in your listing so that buyers know what to expect. Include information on the forms of payment you accept, your return policy, delivery method, postage costs and information on taxes and any applicable government imposed fees. Do not change the terms of the sale in your advert, once a buyer has committed to purchase the vehicle.

  17. Taxes. Unless otherwise specified by law, you are responsible for all taxes (including but not limited to the tax amount itself, as well as any penalties, fines, charges, or late payment interest) related to your sales on the Car & Classic site, where applicable.

  18. International selling. Many of our services are accessible internationally. Advertiser, sellers and buyers are responsible for complying with all laws and regulations applicable to the international sale, purchase, and shipment of vehicles.

  19. Trade selling. If you are registering with Car & Classic as a trade seller or advertising on behalf of a business entity, you represent that you have the authority to legally bind that entity. If you are trading as a business on Car & Classic, you must comply with all applicable laws relating to online trading.
