The Appeal

The legendary 911 comes in many forms and everyone seems to have their own personal favourite.

This 1979 911 SC makes a very good case for itself: the six-cylinder, air-cooled engine takes all the right boxes, and the white paintwork suits this model very well.

Accompanied by a monster of a history folder, this car has clearly been well cared for throughout. It is presented in very good condition, with a few signs of use already evident.

The warmly patinated leather just invites you to step in and sit down, while the odd small blemish in the paintwork means that you won't have to think twice about taking this car out and using it as intended.

The Interior

The black leather interior of this 911 perfectly complements the white paintwork of the exterior.

The leather itself exudes that warm character which can only be built up through years of careful and respectful use. Its leather remains well preserved, with some creasing evident from forty years of use, but no obvious rips, scuffs or blemishes.

In front of the driver sits a well stocked dashboard, with a full complement of bold analogue gauges and tactile controls. The driving experience in a 911 of this vintage harks back to a simpler time, before cars became supercomputers.

The carpets and overmats are clean and tidy, and the headlining is secure and reportedly blemish-free. In all, the interior of this 911 is a very pleasant place to spend time. The only note to modernity is the fitment of a stereo, and we are told that there are no issues with any of the controls, switches, or other features.

To the front, under the bonnet, there is a space saver spare wheel and jack, alongside the fuel tank and battery.

The Exterior

Finished in crisp Grand Prix White, this 911 looks fantastic as it drives along the road.

It stands out from the crowd with its unmissable styling and distinctive rear spoiler. The paint remains very presentable, with only a few reported stonechips and blemishes.

There is a small spot of corrosion below the driver’s door, which appears to be not more than a few centimetres across. But other than this, there are no reported issues with the finish.

The external trim, including chrome, plastics and rubber are very well preserved, with the vendor informing us that any perished rubber has been replaced as necessary. We particularly like the distinctive black plastic bumpers with their ‘bellows’ concertina crumple zones.

Underneath, the car is said to be in good condition, with no reported damage or corrosion. The car runs on five spoke wheels, with painted centres to match the car’s livery, and the tyres are said to be new.

Overall, this 911 SC gives the impression that it has been carefully used and stored without shying away from using the car as originally intended.

This car’s rear-mounted, air-cooled flat-six engine is the kind of specification that Porsche enthusiasts dream about.

It produces more than enough power to keep up with modern traffic and have a load of fun when you put your foot down.

The extensive history file which accompanies this 911 details servicing, repairs and parts going back many years.

The vendor informs us that it has received a new exhaust and a new petrol tank during their ownership, and that the car is in good mechanical condition, drives well, changes gear and stops as it should.

There are no reported oil leaks or smoke, no unusual noises or unique characteristics, and it sounds great.

Summary

In all, this 911 SC appears to be a very good example of Porsche from this era. It looks very smart and presentable in its white paint work, and the accompanying history file is thick enough to reassure us that the car has been well cared for throughout its life.

We are sure that this 911 will be an excellent addition to any garage or collection.

And we imagine that the feeling of stepping into the car, sinking into those gently mellowed leather seats, turning the key and putting your foot down would never grow old.
