The Volkswagen Golf GTi was one of the first sports car you could buy with your head as well as your heart. Practical, well-made and affordable to run, the GTi was as capable and usable as any regular Golf, but it also offered one of the best high-performance front-wheel-drive powertrains ever fitted to a car.
