Owned by the secretary of the Sheerline Wales club, this vehicle has been kept for 20+ years covering only 7,000 miles
The registration RUG 952 is an original number and could appeal to some for the quirky nature of it
Restored 22 years ago inside and out, this limousine retains very period correct features, patina and looks
The Appeal
Whether it is the regal classic looks that floats your boat or the idea of using such a beautiful British car for ferrying brides around in pure class, this Sheerline will easily do both in reliable style and comfort.
Boasting a wonderfully smooth 6 cylinder British built engine and a manual, column mounted gear shift, this a car not built for speed but for wafting sublimely through the countryside.
Having seen a comprehensive restoration about 22 years ago, the car is in really fine order with every panel outside and every cushion inside looking very good, not brand new but wearing light patina and wear, beautifully befitting of the vehicle and being owned by a serious enthusiast of the marque, you can be rest assured this example will have had the care and attention this 70 year old vehicle will need. The History and Paperwork
Comprehensively restored inside and out in approximately 2000, this car was purchased by the vendor in 1999 and used as a wedding car since only covering around 7,000 miles
Since the vendors purchase, the car has been ‘over serviced’ receiving a service and check every 1000 miles or so
Going off the V5 documentation there is registered just 1 previous keeper though this cannot be confirmed
The registration number for the vehicle RUG 952 is the original for the vehicle and could be of significance to some
The vendor is part of the a Sheerline club having a good knowledge and appreciation of the marque
Fabulously original feel through the spacious cabin with plenty of the original factory fitted features still remaining
Although the clock and radio have decided that 70 years is enough, the rest of the dash mounted dials are in working order, every switch, slider and knob wears a wonderful patina and wear befitting of the age of the car, with the Bakelite knobs having a yellowed finish
The solid wooden dashboard has signs of ageing, naturally, but is evidently very solid and well maintained with a light surface texture from years of use, every mark telling a story
Optioned from new with picnic tables in the rear, this is an ideal wedding car along with a wide bench seat which resembles something more like a sofa with large arm rests, high seat back and plush cushions
The leather covered seats do show some wear and light discolouration befitting of the age but there is no evidence of misuse, rips or tears that may affect the lifespan of the interior
Nice ambient lighting throughout the cabin by means of rear mounted lamps at head height
The back of the front seats has a recess acting as a large footrest, yet another nod toward the limousine style
There are a few minor marks throughout the cabin but nothing a gentle clean wouldn’t remedy, a really comfortable and timeless interior exuding class
Repainted in about 2000 in old english white, the car retains a great shine, good straight bodywork and a complete set of chromework
The exterior of the car has a lovely, old and majestic look with nothing too perfect or overly pampered, just a nice vintage feel and appearance
The paintwork is good, shiny and complete but does in places have some defects either under the surface or on the top. One of the rear arches we noticed evidence of repair
under the paintwork and also around the rear window and around the drivers side rear door handle. These things remedied would definitely bring the bodywork up a notch in overall looks
Much of the brightwork has a good amount of patina and light pitting on the surface, this though does tie in well with the overall look and age of the car and does not detract from the looks in our eyes and only adding character
All the exterior details are complete, all the badges are present and nothing looks out of place and the 4 large headlamps that adorn the front grille are in great order with clear lenses and good brightwork along with all four original hubcaps in great order
Described by the vendor as ‘over serviced’, this Sheerline has been well maintained throughout the vendors 23 year ownership and will have benefited from their knowledge of the model
The A125 D-Series engine is well presented and looks as it would have from factory, minimally painted and a flare of red from the vintage NGK spark plug leads
Due to the lack of miles this car covers, the vendor saw it fit to have a full brake overhaul last year along with the usual service
It is to be noted that although the tyres are in good condition, the vendor described them as very old and would benefit from being replaced if the car was to see significant use
The underside has been properly treated with quality Dynatrol underseal and this is quite
evident as the underside is in exceptional order with every little in the way of surface rust to see and a very pleasing, clean and black finish
The vendor reported the Sheerline drives very well and has been very reliable
Mechanically excellent and boasting a hoard of period features which all together make a pleasing and very presentable example of an Austin Sheerline. With some room for improvement on the paintwork side, the vast majority of the vehicle presents very well and wears its years proudly having mild patina in all the right places.
With cars of this age getting fewer, this is a super opportunity to own one of Britain's finer limousine offerings, ideal as a wedding car or something to tinker with on a weekend, proudly maintained for over two decades by the vendor, this car can also be delivered from its home in Wales for a very reasonable cost.
