The Appeal

The TR4 got pretty Italianate styling by Michelotti and pioneered the option of a ‘Targa’ top four years before Porsche popularised it. These versatile ‘Surrey Top’ cars provide buffet-free top-off motoring or all-weather hard-top motoring.

Not that this pretty 1962 UK-market RHD TR4 has seen much rain or inclement weather. We are told that it was restored in 2018 and that the vendor acquired it in 2019. They have used it sparingly and never in the wet, so its classic red paintwork, chrome wires and lovely burgundy leather cabin remain much as they did the day the restoration was completed.

The quality of that work is obvious from the flush panel fit, particularly across the doors, and the standard of the interior. Less visible are the 2.1L engine mated to an overdrive-equipped manual box, which the vendor says both run well and benefit from regular servicing. Electronic ignition is fitted to improve reliability while a stainless steel exhaust system improves the aural experience.

This is a really tidy TR4 that will appeal to enthusiasts of these much-loved British convertibles.
