The Appeal

They say a true automotive enthusiast has to have owned an Alfa Romeo at one point in their lives, and what an Alfa to have. The Spider is one of those cars that the entire motoring industry adores thanks to a wonderful chassis, characterful engine choices and looks to die for.
This particular 1750 Spider has all of those attributes in abundance thanks to the top-of-the-line 1750 trim level and the more sought-after Series 1 “Boat Tail” design, a Pininfarina special. One of just 601 original right-hand drive 1750 Spiders produced, there are thought to be fewer than 500 still on the road today.
This particular model has been through an extensive restoration including bare metal respray and engine rebuild costing over £30,000.

The Interior

A driver-focused car, everything in the cabin of this Alfa Romeo 1750 Spider points toward the person behind the steering wheel. In fact, with the small diameter steering wheel, beautifully positioned gear knob and tight pedal box, this car is sure to provide an involving driving experience like none other.
The recent restoration is clear to see from the interior with every inch of the cabin look pristine. The leather doesn’t appear to have any marks, the seats present themselves with next to no creases and the carpets barely look used. 
Small details such as the body-colour paint invading the centre console and the chrome trim lining the door cards are excellent pieces of decoration to what is already a stunning place to sit.

The Exterior

Just like the interior, the bodywork of this Alfa Romeo from 1969 is in amazing condition following its ‘no expense spared’ restoration. The iconically Italian red paint works excellently with the simple yet elegant shape of this Series 1 Spider.
In fact, the Series 1 sets itself apart from later iterations of the Spider with better looks courtesy of the Pininfarina design house commonly referred to as the Boat Tail design. The longer, more curvaceous shape of the rear end on this Alfa Romeo Spider is one of the great designs in automotive history.
Elsewhere, the chrome pieces adorning the exterior provide great additions to the stylish overall shape of the car. Front and rear bumpers, door handles and windscreen surround, they all sparkle beautifully in the sunlight. The same is true for the Alfa Romeo-branded hub caps.

The Mechanics

Launched in 1968, the 1.8-litre engine sat under the bonnet of the 1750 would power every variant of the Series 1 Spider at the end of its run. Over 115hp with a lightweight chassis, open top and a 5-speed manual transmission; one can see why these cars are so revered. 
Under the bonnet of this gorgeous example, the Twin cam inline-four looks glorious having also benefitted from the extensive restoration. The engine was in fact rebuilt and the engine bay resprayed with the result being a concours-worthy sight.

Summary

A wonderful little car in great condition, this 1750 Spider Boat Tail is sure to put a smile on its next owner’s face be it simply from looking at the car in a garage or wrestling it through a switchback-filled mountain road.
