The Appeal
With its pillarless side profile and distinctive ‘stack’ headlights, the W114 coupe is one of Paul Bracq’s finest designs and has come to be regarded as one of the iconic Mercedes models. So, it is perhaps no surprise to discover that this car is in demand with film and TV producers and photographers for commercial shoots. Recognised for its pioneering features, engineering, build and quality, it is also considered to have one of the most reliable engines in history.
It was the first of the Mercedes models to feature the Bosch D-Jetronic fully electronic fuel injection, a central console and the now iconic ribbed lights and is an original, increasingly rare, RHD UK market model. Significant restoration work by the current owner included bodywork, floorplates and upholstery with the car being ‘taken down to its wheel arches’ and restored.
Despite the passage of time, it remains in very good order. The current keeper, who bought it in 2009, has clearly looked after it. Recent work includes a full service plus new auxiliary and power steering belts, front discs and pads, alternator air and fuel filters. This is a really stand out, stylish car that definitely deserves the term ‘cool classic.’
The vendor says:
“This model has increased in value significantly over the last twenty years and its value is predicted to rise exponentially over the next five to ten years as it becomes even more rare.
“All the heavy work and expenditure has been done. The bodywork is near immaculate. This is the perfect round town or country car for someone who loves the look and beauty of a classic car but does not want to be doing huge amounts of restoration work and wants a car that is beautiful, very cool, that drives well and that will continue to increase in value.”
