The MK1 MG Midget was released in 1961 and between then and 1974 they released a MK2,MK3 and then this model which is a MK4 but also named the 1500 due to its increased engine capacity owing to the fact it was fitted with the larger engine from the Triumph Spitfire.
Also introduced with this model was the use of plastic bumpers which if desired could be removed and replaced by the chrome set ups used on earlier models.
This MG Midget rolled off the production line in 1975 and between then and 1989 went through 3 owners. The 4th and current owner, purchased it in late 1989 and has taken care of it ever since.
Due to having a job overseas, the car hasn’t covered all that many miles especially in more recent years as it's also harder for the current owner to get in and out of it.
This tallies with the low mileage and the fine condition as it has been tucked up safe in a nice garage when not in use for at least the current ownership (32 years).
Due to lack of use and the impracticalities of getting in and out the current owner has decided it's time it found a new home.
The car comes with its V5c and a wealth of historic paperwork pertinent to the vehicle. Old MOTs, Old service history, and receipts/invoices for any works carried out, even small invoices for tyres and such are included.
The car has seen a respray just before the current owner took possession in April 89 according to the paperwork and it cost circa £1300 which in 1989 was a lot of money. It is stated as yellow on the logbook but almost has a hint of lime colouration to it.
Despite the respray being over 30 years old it has stood the test of time incredibly well and there are only a few small blemishes to note which have been pictured.
The folding roof is in great condition and operates as it should and there is a tonneau cover included which covers the roof when it is stowed.
The car starts, drives and sounds rather lovely, that classic 1493cc SC engine (that originated in the Spitfire) with its raspy note coming from the exhaust.
The car drives well and benefits from regular regular weekly outings. The rest of the time it remains safely ensconced in a water tight, locked garage and covered with a fitted cover.
The history shows normal invoicing for basic servicing, maintenance and upkeep but no major rebuilds have been required.
Affordable classics is a busy part of today's second hand car trade and with Electric powered everything on the horizon, properly fuelled classics seem to be selling quickly as people try to get their last fix of the wonderful noise of a combustion engine.
The 1970s MG Midget was considered a lovely little sports car and today the condition and history of this example puts it perfectly within reach of those with a few spare bucks to spend on a little weekend toy.
It won't rip your face off with blistering speed and it only has two seats so if you have a large family it may not be the best idea but its small, quirky, a lovely colour and condition which makes its really rather cute.
