The Appeal
Before they reached their expectant customers, every Beta Spider had already travelled many miles, thanks to the convoluted build process ping-ponging between Lancia and Zagato factories. Designed by Pininfarina and coachbuilt by Zagato using coupe shells, these expensive, hand-crafted cars are both rare and increasingly collectible.
The appeal lies in the Beta coupe’s brilliant dynamics, revolving around Lampredi’s illustrious twin cam. In this beautifully presented 1978 car it is in two-litre form, offering close to 120bhp through the rear wheels. Considering the renowned fragility of these cars when new, it must be one of the best remaining, its red paintwork recently polished folding a respray around 10 years ago. The soft top has been replaced and the factory alloys refurbished and fitted with new tyres.
Beyond the original panelwork and well-preserved underside, the car has a highly original tan interior that is a treat for the eyes. We love the details like the original and now rare Zagato boot mat. Under the bonnet, there is a fully rebuilt engine that we’re told has covered few miles since completion. Other work includes brake overhaul, new shock absorbers, fuel tank refurbishment and carburettor overhaul. The gearbox has also been recently refurbished.
With Revisione to March 2028, this exceptionally rare, highly presented Spider is ready for summer.
The vendor says:
“The car is in brilliant condition and is a joy to drive, ideal for collectors and enthusiasts of the Lancia brand.”
