The Honda C, Cub and Super Cub have been compared to the Ford Model T, the Volkswagen Beetle and the Jeep as a true icon of 20th century industry and transportation.

The Honda Cub range included 50, 70, 90 and 125cc single cylinder four-stroke engines and, by 2017 they became the most produced motor vehicle in history with numbers passing the 100 million mark.

The Honda Cub has been in continuous production since 1958 and has achieved worldwide sales success being a strange cross between a motorcycle, moped and scooter it was designed and marketed as a motorized two-wheeler for everyman.

Not much is known about the history of this C70 other than it is in very nice condition with what is believed to be very low mileage and some interesting ‘street modifications’ that appear to be very much in vogue.

It was bought about 18 months ago from its original keeper who had dry stored it many years ago. It has been fitted with an aftermarket large single seat, black exhaust system and what looks like a trick swinging arm. Other than that it appears to be in great original and very fine condition.

In 2020 it was bought by the current owner, who has kept it in a dry garage with very little usage since.

The V5 is present and correct and shows first registration in the UK in 1980 and one owner.

The bike comes with one set of keys, and the current MOT expires in October this year.

For a 40 year old bike this C70 looks incredible. There are admittedly a few nut and bolts that are beginning to rust and the original number plate has a definite patina to it but otherwise there is very little to report or point out. It is almost as it was when new, and it drives and runs just as you would expect a faithful Honda C70 to run.

The red paintwork is still bright with no signs of fading and the plastic leg guards or fairing similarly is in great shape with no scuffs, cracks or splits.

If you wanted to get picky the spokes on the wheels could do with a polish to remove the beginnings of some surface rust but other than that you’ll be hard pressed to find fault.

The single cylinder four-stroke engine and three-speed semi-automatic transmission are virtually indestructible, with such simple mechanical parts that home maintenance and servicing is a breeze.

This time–warp C70 has no record of any work or renovation so it assumed that this is just a very well preserved and little used example that has stood the test of time extremely well.

It might be worth giving the bike a quick once over before getting it back on the road full time, but at the moment it starts easily and the gearchanges and engine are all as sweet as they could possibly be.

Well, just look at it! The condition is quite remarkable and if you need to get around on something that stands out among the plethora of little motorised two wheelers around these days, you needn’t look any further.

The American Ad campaign expressed the line ‘You meet the nicest people on a Honda’ and with over 100 Million of them being made in one form or another it is quite likely that you’ll run into several of them on your travels, not that they will be necessarily be as nice and in such great condition as this one.
