The Appeal

Never restored and still wearing its original paint, this 350 SLC is a wonderful classic car on the lookout for its second owner having travelled all over the world with its first one. The pillarless coupe is a great classic look, and during this era Mercedes really did put their cars together well, resulting in legendary build quality and reliability.
Still going strong and in highly original condition, this example would be a great addition to an existing collection or a fun and very useable classic for regular driving.

The History and Paperwork

 • First registered in Germany in 1980

The seller tells us that the vehicle comes complete with the V5, service history, handbook and 2 sets of keys.

Having finally finished up in California with its original owner it’s been brought back to the UK recently where it has been fully re-commissioned and serviced with new fluids and filters, new tyres and new brake pads. It's spent the last few years being unused, but is now ready to drive away.

The Interior

 • Very clean and original cloth and leatherette interior

The all-original interior has fared well over the years, with little sign of wear and tear. Only the wooden inlays need some light renovation to bring the whole interior up to an excellent condition. Carpets, headlining and door-cards all present really well, as does the dashboard while the driver’s instruments are clear and all function correctly.
The air-conditioning blows nice and cold, and the sunroof opens and closes without issue. Both doors closing with that satisfying and reassuring Mercedes clunk.

The Exterior

 • Finished in Polar Silver
 • New tyres on nice original wheels
 • Very good chrome and trim
 • Very good condition overall
Looking very smart in its original paint colour of Polar Silver, this 350 SLC looks good from every angle, with no damage or marks to report apart from a small paint blemish on the bonnet which can easily be taken care of.
The original wheels are in excellent condition and are each fitted with brand new tyres. Meanwhile, the external trim and brightwork is all present and correct and looks good.
Spending many years in the dry Californian climate has truly benefitted this car, with no obvious sign of any corrosion to be found.

The Mechanics

The car’s one owner has kept it well maintained and serviced throughout its life in Germany and then later out in California. The very clean and tidy engine bay certainly does bear testament to that.
The car remained in California unused for 4 years. Therefore, upon importing the car into the UK, the owner had it fully re-commissioned, changing all fluids and giving it a thorough inspection and service to make it fully road ready.
It starts and runs superbly with the 3.5 Litre V8 starting easily and running smoothly. There’s no smoke from the exhaust or any untoward noises from the drivetrain. The car is fully serviced and ready for its next owner to drive and enjoy.

Summary

These late 70s / early 80s Mercedes are iconic for a reason. They're timeless in their styling and incredibly well built, with legendary reliability. To find a one-owner example in such original and solid condition is an exceptionally rare thing. As a daily classic or a car to show, this is simply perfect. It wears its age very well, with a gorgeous patina, and is astonishingly complete, straight and original.
