The Appeal
German carmakers pioneered the targa roof due to ongoing safety concerns with traditional convertibles. Porsche's Targa models are well-known, but it wasn't the only manufacturer building such cars. The E21 Baur Cabriolet retained the car's B-pillars and a rollover bar to maintain chassis stiffness, which was necessary since BMW did not offer a factory convertible for the E21 platform. The conversion work was carried out by the renowned coachbuilder Karosserie Baur, creating a unique aesthetic that has become increasingly desirable over the years. Only 4,595 units were produced.
Our 1981 example has had just three former registered keepers and has been in the current ownership since 2017. It presents as a very usable classic that the vendor notes could easily serve as a daily driver if desired. Having been consistently dry stored and maintained during the current ownership, this well-sorted survivor would be an excellent addition to any garage.
