The W124 was manufactured by Mercedes between 1984 and 1997 and was the first car given the official title of E class in 1993. The W124 cars designed by Bruno Sacco featured a lot of cutting edge technology at the time that really helped the E class stand out above its rivals. But this doesn’t describe the true joy of a 230 E from this era, a car that in 1998 Autocar described as “the best used car in the world”, which they then again discussed in 2020 and reached the same conclusion! 

The 230 E is everything a true Mercedes should be; exceptionally well built, supremely comfortable ride, fantastic engine and refined good looks. Now with good examples getting harder to find low mileage ones are appreciating in value.

The current owner bought the car in 2020 after regretting the sale of his previous 230 E. The car hasn’t required any serious work under his ownership, with the typical build quality of Mercedes and having covered under 37000 we wouldn’t have expected any. He has kept the car garaged, it hasn’t even seen rain under his ownership and it shows, this is one immaculate car. 

The owner is only selling it as he has acquired an old police car he wants to restore and doesn’t want to keep the Mercedes outside.

As with all quality cars of this low mileage, there isn’t a huge stack of receipts for major work, there is however, invoices for all of the servicing that has been carried out at the recommended intervals as well as all of the original owners manuals and paperwork.

The interior of the car is in fantastic condition with no real visible signs of wear or ageing. The dash, door cards, upholstery, head lining and carpets all look fantastic and the car provides the luxuriously comfortable driving experience one would expect from an E class Mercedes. 

The exterior matches the condition of the interior; fantastic throughout. From the paint, through the brightwork to the underside, this car is immaculate. With classic 90’s Mercedes styling this car looks as good as the day it rolled out of the factory and would be at home in any show.

As with both the exterior and the interior, the mechanics are exceptional. The car starts easily with a flick of the key and the 2.3L engine runs smoothly, pulls well and idles perfectly. 

The car drives with the easy going cruiser comfort that defined the E class cars of this generation. Everything works exactly as it should and even the underside of the car looks good!

With a luxurious smooth ride few modern cars can match and classic 90’s styling we love the E Class Mercedes of this era.
