The Appeal
The Bentley Eight was a chance for buyers with marginally less deep pockets to experience the firm’s unique blend of hand-crafted luxury. Retailing at marginally less than £50,000 when launched in 1984 it was anything but cheap.
The new model proved very popular with buyers and Bentley responded by improving the specification such that the final cars, produced in the first couple of years of the 1990s, offered luxury to a similar level as the rest of the range. But this is popular by Bentley levels - just 1,736 were sold over 8 years.
This 1991 example is one of the last built, sumptuously specified in Brewsters Green over a cream ‘parchment’ interior. A very low mileage car it is in superb condition, the care and attention of its few owners documented in the thick history file. Recent work on the suspension and brakes, plus an independent assessment of the underside as ‘very good’ sit alongside a long MOT to June 2024. This is a well cared for example of one of a hand built Bentley.
History and Paperwork
- First registered 1st August 1991 - Order from Murray Motor Co Ltd, for £72,344 – dated February 1991
- Just five owners from new with current owner since 3rd June 2016
- Extensive history including raft of invoices for ongoing maintenance
- These include bodywork repairs in August 2016
- Brake and suspension work undertaken in July 2022
- At this time the underside was checked for corrosion and judged to be in ‘very good’ condition

- RREC Valuation Certificate dated 25th November 2016 for £22,500 at 66,016 miles

The Condition
- Well preserved Brewsters Green bodywork with no visible signs of deterioration
- Similarly well kept ‘Parchment’ interior with black piping and similar two-tone dashboard
- Burr walnut veneers in good order with no delamination or cracking
- Factory alloy wheels in unmarked condition with factory correct Avon TurboSteels
- Green carpets and similar lambswool overmats all good through cabin and boot
- High specification includes period radio and electric seats with heating and memory
- Factory tool kit in excellent condition appearing virtually unused
- Exterior chromework in good order with no visible dents or deterioration
- Glasswork well kept with good rubbers across car
- Small chip to corner of bonnet and a couple of stone chips to front but not unsightly
- Major work to air conditioning by HR Owen – works perfectly
- Underside very well kept with good recent report and no structural MOT advisories
The Mechanics
- 6,750cc V8 hand-built Bentley engine
- 3spd automatic gearbox with column shift
- The suspension & brake work was carried out by H R Owen in 2016 at a cost of £6,450
- Extensive history file including 14 service stamps to 2016 which includes a major service in 2022 at 68,977 miles. The car has only driven 34 miles since
