The Appeal
Lotus’ decision to rejuvenate the Elan name placed a huge weight of expectation on the new car. It delivered, the Elan SE being widely regarded as one of the best-handling front-wheel drive sports cars of the last 40 years.
With a turbocharged 1.6L Lotus-tuned Isuzu DOHC 16V engine, the M100 was quick and supremely nimble. This car is classically finished in British Racing Green and has covered just 47,000 miles from new. The interior was retrimmed earlier this year in tan leather to complement the exterior, including seats, quilted door cards and stitched backrests. The carpets were also renewed in charcoal with tan piping.
Despite the sparing use, the recent maintenance is impressive. The car was serviced at 44,500 miles in September 2023, in March 2024 at again at 46,500 miles in June this year. Since 2023, the sump, cambelt, front callipers and tyres have been replaced. All work has been entrusted to marque and classic car specialists. The car has had just four keepers and comes to market with a lengthy MOT valid to June 2026.
