The Land Cruiser concept arrived in 1951 as a mobility vehicle for Japan’s National Police Reserve. Over the next 71 years of continuous production, 14 model lines and thousands of variations were created making the vehicle one of the most varied and the longest produced vehicle in Toyota’s history. During that time it has sold more than 10 million examples and become a favourite within the four-wheel drive sector, consistently setting the benchmark for durability, ruggedness, reliability and flexibility. 

This example for auction began life as utility vehicle for The Office of Public Works in Ireland and lived an easy life as a patrol vehicle.

The current owner has enjoyed this Land cruiser for nine years but feels the time is right to pass it on to another enthusiastic owner.

Being used every day the vehicle has proved to be an invaluable asset to their family and totally reliable in their ownership.

Two ownership stamps on the logbook are from The Office of Public works in Ireland where it was used as a patrol vehicle and seeing very little or no off-road work in that time.

There are 8 owners listed including three from the current owner’s family as it is used as a business vehicle.

Overall, the interior is in a presentable, used condition. The inner liners made from cardboard have a few holes in them and show signs of wear.   

Vehicles of this type are rugged and built to withstand everything that's thrown at them. Because of this there are a few marks on the dashboard and the driver's seat edge has had a large patch on the door edge. The rest of the grey seating is in excellent condition.

The owner prefers the Landcruiser to show it's wear as badge of pride and made the decision to keep everything as original as possible in his ownership. 

We've been told the side sections can easily be removed and glass inserted if a four-seat conversation was to be done.

The vehicle had a full professional respray in 2013 to the same factory white colour by a company in Mullingar Co Westmeath.

The paint has aged well with a few scuffs and bubbling around the rear wheel arch and a few other spots that could be improved upon. 

The brightwork is in good condition. The double doors to the rear open and close very well even with the weight of the new spare tyre attached. We’ve been told all the panels are original and remain virtually unscathed apart from a few small marks.

The current owner has the vehicle serviced regularly and although there are signs of weathering around the engine components, the owner tells us the car is in excellent repair with no outstanding issues.

The owner of 9 years drives the vehicle every day to travel to work and finds it totally reliable. He loves it to bits and finds it an absolute dream to drive.

To compete with other vehicles within the segment Toyota identified that the 70 series should be split into two sections – a robust, leaf-sprung, cargo workhorse, and a more comfortable, people-focussed, coil-sprung version primarily tuned for the European market.

The 70 series Land Cruiser therefore arrived to the market in two forms, heavy and light duty. This coil sprung version is a versatile vehicle upholding Toyotas legacy of quality. 

It can be used daily as is or the next owner can work on the cosmetics to make a showstopper.
