The Appeal
Renowned for its durability and safety, the 190E has stood the test of time and is now well regarded in the classic car community. Good examples are highly desirable and sought after.
Here we have a highly original and unmodified example that has recently been given a cosmetic refresh, while retaining its factory specification. It’s been carefully stored as part of a private collection since 2019 and is now ready to find a new owner.

- Beige fabric upholstery in excellent condition, no tears or notable wear we could see
- Complementary carpets and original Mercedes-Benz overmats in good condition
- Desirable Zebrano wood veneer all look to be in good order, with no cracking or UV damage apparent
- The plastic trim of the driver’s foot rest is broken and may require renewal
- Driver’s side rear seat cargo net is stretched out from use
- Electric sunroof, windows and door mirrors

The Exterior
- We’re informed that the car was recently resprayed in its original factory colour
- External trim appears to be in good condition, with some natural wear and patination to the brightwork and badging
- It sits on its original alloys, which the vendor tells us have been refurbished during their ownership
- The tyres are unbranded but appear to be in good condition, with good tread levels
- Overall, the car presents well externally, looking to be straight, clean and unmodified
The Mechanics
- 1,996cc inline four-cylinder petrol engine serving up 120bhp to the rear wheels when new
- Smooth 4-speed automatic transmission
- The engine bay is very clean and tidy, with no signs of oil leaks, overheating or damage that we could see
- We’re told by the vendor that the car will require some light mechanical recommissioning before being returned to the road
Summary
The 190E is one of those rare cars that almost everyone admires. Handsomely styled, neatly proportioned and built with the kind of quality and attention to detail that 80s/90s Mercedes were known for, it’s easy to see why they remain popular.
We have a fine example here, presented in a nice specification and having been carefully stored and cosmetically enhanced over the last few years. As a basis for a usable daily classic, or as something special to wheel out for shows and meets, there can’t be many more attractive options than this 190E.
