The Appeal
The ‘124’ range of Mercedes-Benz saloons – there were coupe, estate, cabriolet and saloon variants – is justifiably recognised as one of the firm’s crowning achievements. Considering the models that have gone before and after, that is quite an accolade.
What sets the range apart is how it seamlessly merges the impeccable engineering traditions of the past with a more modern, technologically advanced and stylish design. Much of that achievement lies at the door of Bruno Sacco who penned a shape at once classic and handsome. The ‘Sacco Planks’ later added to the 124 only enhanced its appeal.
This immaculate E220 cabriolet exudes all those qualities and shows why these models are so revered. Enthusiast owned and with a high factory specification, it has the desirable 2.2litre M111 engine and has covered a very low mileage.
