The Appeal
When the W140 was in development, Mercedes was under attack. Lexus had built ‘the Japanese Mercedes’ in the form of the LS400 and Stuttgart needed to pull it out of the bag. It did, delivering the exquisitely engineered W140.
Most W140s tend to have been used and enjoyed, resulting in mega mileages. Not so this carefully preserved S280, which has covered less than 58,000 miles with its handful of keepers. Finished in Onyx Grey metallic, it is a well-preserved example.
The vendor acquired the car a couple of years ago to add to his private collection and has used it sparingly, with dry storage in between. It has only been used for Mercedes shows. It remains factory standard and comes to market with a usefully long MOT valid to July 2026.
For many, the W140 is the last of the ‘proper’ engineering-led models. Here is a well-preserved survivor that would work equally as a daily or a show car.
