The Appeal
The Toyota MR2’s mid-engined rear-wheel drive set up have secured a trusty and loyal following over the years, thanks to their nimble handling, responsive steering and high-revving engine. The GT T-Bar featured a unique T-Bar roof that can be removed to enjoy open-top motoring and was only produced for a limited time and in limited numbers further adding to its appeal. While the 2.0 litre, 16-valve, naturally aspirated 4-cylinder engine may not be the most powerful, its lightweight body meant its 168 bhp could propel it from 0-60 in 7.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 137mph.
This particular example is nothing short of outstanding and an absolute credit to all its former keepers, particularly the current one who is something of a perfectionist, bringing the car into the condition you see it today.

The Exterior
- Original Goodwood Green Metallic paintwork is in incredible condition. On inspection we only found a couple of stone chips which are catalogued in the photo gallery, but other than that, its hard to find fault with
- Plastic arches have all been replaced
- No dents or dings
- Tyres all have plenty of tread
- Original alloys have been reconditioned and look fantastic
- Wing mirrors and trim all present well including the door handles, bumpers, and badges
- Underneath also looks very clean and largely treated with antirust protection or powder coated
- Lights all work and are free from any cracks or damage
The Mechanics
- 1,998cc 4-cylinder engine
- 5-speed manual gearbox
- Powerflex bushes fitted where needed
- New genuine Toyota shock absorbers all round
- New brake discs and pads all round
- Rear genuine Toyota exhaust silencer
- New Stainless steel Catalytic converter
- Wax injection using Dinitrol products throughout– bonnet, boot, doors, chassis, sills and underside
- Cross member removed, powder coated and then wax injected
- Front suspension anti roll bar mountings all replaced and all powder coated
- Drop links all replaced
- Air conditioning currently not working. New condenser was fitted and it worked briefly but has since stopped working so may have leaked
- Toyota Main Dealer service and MOT completed with no advisories on 19th April 2023. Copies of the stamped service book, visual inspection and MOT certificate shown below.

- Fixings on wheel arches and factory undertrays have been all been replaced with stainless steel bolts

The Summary
Not only fabulous fun to drive, BUT the GT T-bar model is also becoming increasingly rare making it instantly more desirable. Its sleek lines and sporty stance should ensure there is interest from a range of collectors and enthusiasts alike, but this one really is in time warp condition and completely original, making it a very special car indeed.
