1999 Ferrari 456M GTA

Video at the bottom of the listing

Highlights

  • 1 of 650 456M GTAs delivered
  • Apparently, only 60 were finished in Rosso Monza
  • Special order, two-tone leather interior
  • 5.5-litre V12, automatic transmission
  • Just 81,270Km on the clock

The Appeal

For many, 1992’s 456GT and its successor, the 456M, were the last of the classically styled Ferrari grand tourers. Sumptuously elegant styling, a generous 2+2 layout, charismatic front-engined V12 layout and iconic pop-up lights (the last time they’d appear on a Ferrari) all combined to create a truly wonderful machine.
Now rightly regarded as one of the prancing horse’s greatest hits, well presented examples are highly sought after, especially when finished in the less common colourways. Therefore, it’s a pleasure to present this handsomely specified and very nicely presented 456M GTA. As a GTA model it is fitted with the four-speed automatic transmission – a comfortable and effortless companion on a long journey, which is any grand tourer’s raison d'être.
Finished in Rosso Monza with a coordinated special order interior, with just over 81,000Km on the clock, this stylish supercar would be the perfect companion for anyone who loves to relax and soak in the banshee howl of a Ferrari V12.

The History and Paperwork

  • Built in November 1998
  • Originally supplied to Japan in 1999
  • Imported into Czechia approximately 12 years ago
  • Just 650 456M GTA models were built, with apparently only 60 delivered in Rosso Monza
  • Just 81,270Km on the clock
  • Supplied with Czech registration documents

The Interior

  • Connolly two-tone leather upholstery
  • Electrically adjustable seats
  • Electric windows and door mirrors
  • Air conditioning
  • Original radio/cassette system with 6CD changer
Most of the cabin is neatly swathed in opulent Connolly leather, beige to the seats, door cards and lower dash, deep red to the upper dash. It all remains in very good condition, with some light weathering to the front seats, particularly the driver’s side, but no notable damage we could see.
Similarly, the dark red carpets seem to be in good order, with no obvious damage or staining we could discern. Patterned dark red floor mats help to protect the original carpets and also look to be free from threading or damage. Meanwhile the headlining is nice and taut, with no sagging, damage or staining on show at all.
Unlike so many modern supercars, the switchgear and controls in Ferraris of this period are elegantly styled and laid out, with clean analogue dials and chunky buttons and switches offering a pleasing and tactile driving environment. Here it all looks to be in fine fettle, with only the lightest touch of wear from use in evidence. It’s very well preserved, and we couldn’t identify any damage, serious wear or other issues at all. The vendor tells us that everything works just as it should, reporting no faults or issues.
As with any decent GT car, the boot is a good size, finished here with black carpet which looks to be in fine fettle.

The Exterior

  • Pop-up headlights, working as they should
  • Rare Rosso Monza paintwork
  • Correct factory-fitted 17-inch alloys
In the eyes of many, a Ferrari should always be red, and we certainly think that this darker hue of ‘Rosso Monza’ suits the 456M perfectly. The smooth, elegant lines and classy detailing suit this more subtle shade very well. It presents well too, with a deep glossy shine and an even finish. As you’d expect from any car that’s been used on the road, there are a few stone chips to the front, but we didn’t observe any significant blemishes or marks. Again, it looks remarkably good for a 24 year old car.
Straight and clean, with no signs of damage or corrosion, the bodywork of this car is just as well kept. The bonnet is actually made of carbon fibre, lowering both the overall weight and the centre-of-gravity for better handling.
The swage lines are nice and crisp, while all of the external trim and badging also looks to be in excellent condition, with no cracking or chipping to the light lenses or glass that we could observe either. In fact, the only other note we made externally was a couple of small areas on the lower black plastic section of the rear bumper that appear to have been touched in. But again, this is nothing major at all.
The smooth, five-spoke 17-inch alloys are the factory-correct items, showing here in very good order with just a few minor blemishes. They are dressed in a good set of Bridgestone tyres.

The Mechanics

  • 5,474cc naturally aspirated V12
  • Automatic four-speed transmission
  • Power-assisted steering
  • Traction control
  • Anti-lock braking system
That 5.5-litre V12 offers all manner of drama and sounds absolutely wonderful, both on tickover and at full chat. The quad-cam, 48-valve unit is rated by Ferrari at 442hp and 550Nm, offering a 0-100Km/h sprint of just over five seconds and a claimed top speed of “more than” 298Km/h.
Ensuring the car handles and rides as well as it looks and goes, a number of upgrades were made to the all-wishbone suspension, brakes and exhaust system over the 456GT. The result is a car that handles well, offers a great ride and can still set the soul astir at the merest prod of your right foot.
We’re assured by the vendor that the car starts, runs and drives very well, with no problems or issues to report.

Summary

It’s a V12 Ferrari, in a superb colour scheme, with timelessly elegant styling and a gorgeous two-tone interior. Honestly, what more could you possibly want? Don’t miss this opportunity to acquire a very fine example of one of Ferrari’s greatest grand tourers.
