The Appeal
The original SLK was a response to the 90s roadster revival sparked by the MX-5 and, in its way, it was as influential as the diminutive Mazda. It didn’t invent the idea of the folding hard top, but it certainly popularised it.
It’s easy to understand why. That clever roof, Mercedes’ first, makes the SLK both coupe and convertible. This is a convertible that doesn’t show its foibles when the weather turns cold or wet. Of the many R170 engines available, the supercharged 2.3L M11 190bhp 4cyl engine is arguably the bst real world option, particularly if you plan to use and enjoy the car.
Classically finished in popular Brilliant Silver with a two-tone black and grey interior, this 1999 car is a really tidy example that has covered under 40,000 miles from new. The current keeper is only the car’s third having bought it in 2002. We’re told that it has been well maintained.
The car presents well in the usual R170 check areas and comes with a current MOT to August 2026 that confirms the structural condition. It arrives in perfect time to enjoy the SLK’s unique charms this summer.
