The Appeal
The recent announcement that Audi is to discontinue sales of the Allroad variants of its A4 and A6 models in the UK prompted a few misty eyed retrospectives and for good reason: the chunky, slightly raised versions of Audi’s Avants make for perfect daily transport. Equipped with four wheel drive, plastic cladding and, here with a 2.7 litre turbocharged V6, it’s a practical, discreet and pleasingly swift way to navigate the highways and byways of the UK.
This example was imported from Japan a couple of years ago in seemingly timewarp condition. It’s had a few choice upgrades including an Audi-style aftermarket head unit with Android and Apple Carplay, headlights with daylight running elements that recall BMW’s ‘angel eye’ units and an attempt to turn the headlining into a Chesterfield which looks a great deal better than it sounds. With at least two of those changes updating the car to make it usable, a recent cam belt change and very low mileage, this will make an ideal modern classic daily. Don’t delay, get your bid in now!

The Interior

If further testament were needed to the quality of Audi’s interiors, then look no further than inside this car. The mileage may be small, but the condition of the cabin is still remarkable. There’s slight patina on the driver’s seat bolster but otherwise there are no marks anywhere in the cabin. The Alcantara is all in tip top condition and the wood trim unmarked.
There are a couple of aftermarket additions to note: the head unit has been replaced with an authentically Audi-looking item with Android and Apple Car Play and satellite navigation, bringing it bang up to date. Up above, the headlining has been modified with a button finish. The headlinings don’t usually tend to sag on these so we can only speculate that it was carried out for aesthetic reasons and the results are certainly unique and still in keeping with the general upmarket feel.
In the boot, there are a couple of signs of daily life with some scuffs to the chrome trim and the boot cover but in general, like the rest of the interior, it’s still in great shape.
The Exterior

Looking suitably stylish in dark metallic grey and with a twist of the exotic with the square number plates dictated by its Japanese origins, this Allroad presents very well. The bodywork is very straight and the paintwork is in great condition with just a few light stone chips to the front. The wheels have benefitted from a bit of sidewall on the tyres, showing no kerbing and wear a matching set of recently fitted Michelin tyres.
The headlights have been upgraded to include daylight running lights but not in the usual Audi straight line; here they resemble the BMW ‘angel eye’ headlights which gives them an interesting feature. Underneath, the seller reports that it’s absolutely pristine, consistent with Japan’s lack of road salt. Overall, it’s really as good as you could hope for.
The Mechanics

It’s no surprise to find a pristine engine bay to match the presentation of the rest of the car, and the oil leaks reported as advisories on the MOT appear to have been the result of a poorly refitted sump plug on the gearbox following the last service, which has now been addressed.
The seller reports that the car is a joy to drive. With the smaller wheel option and air suspension, the ride quality is apparently much improved over its Avant siblings and the turbocharged V6 engine provides plenty of aural stimulation. The brakes are effective, with upgraded cross drilled disks at the front still in good condition and reportedly plenty of life left in the pads. The gearbox changes smoothly and there are no untoward noises on the move. The car is ready to go.
