The Appeal
Where its predecessor had shared much of its DNA with Jaguar, Aston Martin’s altogether new DB9 platform represented a milestone in the marque’s history. The Volante offered the opportunity to better hear that legendary V12 engine and in this example, the manual gearbox helped the driver to closer connect with that incredible powerplant as well.
As 1 of only 36 right-hand drive DB9 Volantes to feature a third pedal, this example is rather rare and is presented in very good condition.

The Interior

On the inside, this Aston Martin appears to be in very good order indeed. The original paperwork shows that this car was ordered with an Obsidian Black interior featuring Falcon Grey stitching and optional perforated leather inserts.
The seats are in lovely condition, displaying only slight wear to the seats squabs as one would expect. The centre console is finished in piano black and is really smart. We particularly enjoy how the handbrake is positioned to the right of the drive, emulating pre-war Aston Martins as a novel engagement with the brand’s heritage. The vendor reports that there is a very small degree of shrinkage evident on the top of the dashboard, but nothing that would unduly concern us.
The Tailors grey headlining appears to be in fine shape and the original Obsidian Black carpeting is in good order both inside the passenger compartment and the boot. The vendor reports that a Continental electric tyre inflator is situated within.
The vendor informs us that a 275 watt sound system is also fitted, which provides excellent audio quality with a 6 CD multichanger. We are assured that everything inside this DB9’s interior functions exactly as Aston Martin intended.
The Exterior

The original Tungsten Grey paintwork glistens in bright sunlight and would appear to be in great condition. The vendor reports that there is the odd stone chip here and there and a small mark on the lower lip of the bootlid. Having been used for European grand touring, these are the sorts of blemishes we would expect to see, otherwise the original paintwork has survived really well.
The vendor tells us that the 10-spoke alloy wheels are an upgrade from standard and they certainly suit the car’s stance and complement the Tungsten Grey paint. From what we could see, they appear to be in good shape, with no clear signs of curb damage or lacquer peel. The vendor also points out this DB9’s red brake calipers, which are a subtle nod to its sporty credentials. The tyres appear to be in good condition and have ample tread remaining.
We understand that the soft top roof is in fine condition and operates smoothly. There is also a cover accompanying the car.

Being such a rare example with its manual gearbox, this Aston Martin is amongst the most engaging DB9 Volantes to drive.
We are informed that this car had its engine replaced by Aston Martin at 17,000 miles. The current powerplant is reportedly in very good order and the car drives incredibly well. The vendor reports that the DB9 has incredible power delivery, accompanied by an intoxicating bark emanating from the exhaust pipes, and new upgraded manifolds were fitted by Davron Aston three years ago.
The clutch was also replaced at 37,000 so this Aston Martin should be in fine mechanical order, ready for the next owner to drive the car as often as they wish.

Summary
With its manual gearbox and convertible roof, this is arguably the most engaging way to experience the DB9 and this example is presented in lovely condition.
Having covered relatively few miles and with a rich service history, this Aston Martin is a fine specimen that the next owner shall surely enjoy for years to come…
