The Appeal

The original R53 took the original Mini Cooper template and made it much, much better. Its 1.6L 170bhp engine, soundtracked with a classic supercharge whine, delivered the straight line performance to go with the grippy go-kart handling.

The trick with any early Cooper S is to find one with a decent specification in good order. This car ticks that box, it’s silver-blue paintwork accented with black exterior trim, roof, wheels and matching stripes. It presents well, as does the original and unmodified interior.
