The Appeal
It’s easy to see the appeal of the C63 – take Mercedes medium size executive saloon, crowbar in a frankly huge 6.2-litre V8, stand back and applaud. And applaud we did, for it was really rather excellent. If you want to cover vast distances in consummate comfort, in as little time as possible, arriving unruffled and ready to take over the world, then the E63 was (and remains) one of the best ways to do so.
This particular E63 was initially delivered to Kuwait and was highly specified with ‘Designo’ options inside and out. Now presented for sale with just 82,272Km on the clock, it’s a great opportunity to acquire the first E-class to feature Mercedes’ iconic 6.2 V8.

The Interior
- Designo ‘Porcelain’ two-tone black and cream leather upholstery, presented in generally good order, with some signs of wear and creasing to the seats, but no significant wear or damage
- Bird’s Eye Maple trim to the doors and dashboard appears to be in good order, with no cracking we could see
- Alcantara Anthracite headlining
- Black carpets and floor mats all look well, with no notable signs of threading or staining we could identify
- Electrically operated front seats, heated and cooled with three-memory function

- The paint is quite dulled and worn, with a number of stone chips and some blemishes

- 18” five-spoke ‘Y’ alloys, with a diamond cut finish present well, with no lacquer damage or kerbing apparent
- All of the external trim appears to be present and correct, and in reasonable condition
- The glass has been tinted and looks in good order, while all the light lenses present undamaged although the headlights would benefit from polishing
The Mechanics
- 6,208cc naturally aspirated V8, presented in clean and tidy condition, with no leaks we could see
- Factory performance figures: 507hp, 465lb-ft, 0-100km/h in 4.3 seconds, limited to 155km/h
- Seven-speed automatic transmission
- ABS, traction control, speed sensitive power steering
- Airmatic suspension
- The vendor tells us that the car is running well, but some maintenance will be required
Summary
Finely executed with ‘Designo’ personalisation to the interior and exterior, this E63 is a handsome and eminently capable machine. Whether you love to wallow in comfort and waves of easy torque, or enjoy occasionally exploring the outer reaches of a car’s performance, the E63 will leave you satisfied.
Although in need of some servicing and cosmetic attention to bring it back to its absolute best, this very well specified executive saloon with that rocketship of a V8 hauling it along has much to recommend it.
