Designed by the renowned Anders Warming, the E85/Z4 was introduced to the world at the 2002 Paris Motor Show by the German Giant BMW. Replacing the ‘Z3’, the model was in production up until 2008 and available both as a convertible/roadster and two seater coupe. 

Built in South Carolina USA, almost 200,000 vehicles were built and sold worldwide in its 6 year run before being replaced by the E89, second generation Z4. 

First registered in November 2008, this rear wheel drive roadster has spent most of its life around the Hertfordshire and Kent area before eventually reaching its current home near the English Riviera in Devon. 

It appears to have lived a straightforward life, with no history of anything untoward or peculiar. 6 previous keepers have kept the car in fine order with the current owner keeping the vehicle garaged and out of the elements. 

Included with the car you will find original manufactures book back, complete with manual, service book and the obligatory user guides and recommendations. 6 service stamps are present, with the last being carried out in 2020. 

Invoices for some past work and a couple MOT certificates are there, plus a valid V5c. 

Finished in Space Grey, the paintwork on this car is great. Of course, there’s your usual age related marks, a small stone chip here and there but we had a good look round the vehicle during our visit and the only thing worth pointing out is the alloy wheel scuff. A little bit of paint work to the front to rid of some stone chips has been carried out but overall, the car is in more than lovely condition. 

M Sport styling upgrades were present from the factory, giving the car an even sportier look with upgraded suspension, alloys, seats and steering wheel. The convertible roof is also in very good order, apart from a bit of storage dust, it appears in quality condition and in perfect working order. 

Inside things are just as quality as outside. Black leather Sports seats paired with the Grey exterior is a nice pairing, it’s straightforward, not flashy, not in your face, just simplistic but acceptable. 

Both seats are in fine order, no tears, scratches anywhere, as you enter it's clear the car has been well loved over the years. 

On our visit the car was started and manoeuvred several times, no issues, warning lights or worrying noises were present, the 4 cylinder petrol engine fired up and ticked over confidently. 

The car was last serviced in 2020 at 63,415 miles plus and MOT’d until June 2022. 

As far as two seater convertibles go, the Z4 is one everyone should have on their shopping list. These cars were made for driving and with any level of the Z4 you’ll get that fun, smile-inducing driving experience. It’s also a car that can be used weekday or weekend, thanks to its decent sized boot and reasonable fuel consumption, but when those summer evenings come around you best believe it will step up a gear. 

Sleek, low stance, big sporty wheels, rear wheel drive, two litre petrol fun, plus a roof that will drop in under 10 seconds when the sunshine makes an appearance. Sounds good to us!
