The Appeal
There are few cars as Iconic as the Land Rover, with worldwide recognition the Land Rovers have proven to be some of the most capable and hardy vehicles on the planet. The first Land Rover was launched in 1948 and since then subsequent refinement over generations have given us the Defender we know and love today. To celebrate 60 years Land Rover produced a very limited edition in 2008 in the form of the SVX. With only 300 built and only 90 that came into the UK, the SVX is as rare as they come and the perfect car for any Land Rover enthusiast.
Asides from collectibility the SVX was a significant upgrade over the standard Defender; full roll cage, heated Recaro half leather seats, heated windscreen, soft top, diamond cut alloy wheels, tubular side steps and improved damping on the suspension. Of course, all of this is on top of the already formidable Defender and with the addition of a Samurai winch on the front courtesy of the previous owner it’s an extremely capable utility vehicle as well as being highly collectible. It presents a rare opportunity to acquire one of these special edition Defenders in good mechanical condition with just some cosmetic work required to bring it up to condition.

The SVX benefits from improved interior with the half leather Recaro seats offering a much improved ride as well as extra support over the standard Defender seats. As well as the chrome knobs on the gearbox and transfer box levers there is a sports steering wheel which all add up to make this Defender feel ready for anything. The inside of the hood presents well with no visible rips or tears. The car is ready to be used as is or with some cosmetic restoration could be turned into something really special.

The Defender is one of those cars that’s instantly recognisable just from the shape. The SVX changes things up a bit to create a unique Defender that celebrates 60 years of Land Rover. With the bigger diamond-cut alloy wheels, a restyled grille, a gorgeous black soft top, tubular side steps and metallic black paintwork it makes for a fantastic looking Defender like no other. On top of the additional SVX exclusive upgrades, this Defender comes equipped with a heavy duty bumper, complete with Samurai winch and spotlights.
Whilst as a working vehicle there is room for improvement cosmetically, it’s still a fantastic looking Land Rover. The combination of black on black with the clear light lenses make it really stand out as something a bit special. Whilst the paintwork and trim would benefit from some attention, the soft top presents very well throughout and the whole car makes quite an impression.
The Mechanics

It’s clear from looking at the invoices supplied with this Defender that it has been very well looked after mechanically, with both the current and previous owner using the same garage for any work. As well as the general servicing that’s been carried out, this Defender also benefits from having a galvanised chassis.
The car starts easily on a turn of the key, idling smoothly with no unwanted noises. The owner informs us that it drives perfectly, accelerating well, shifting smoothly and stopping quickly (for a Defender).
Summary
Mechanically sound, but ready for cosmetic restoration this Defender is a fantastic opportunity to acquire a very rare SVX. An excellent addition to any collection, or as a working future classic this Defender SVX is not to be missed.
